Sorry Shannon Regrets Drunken Show

Shannon Noll’s been left red-faced after he drunkenly slurred his way through the headlining spot on the CMC Rocks The Snowys festival last weekend.

According to The Daily Telegraph, many people booed the Australian Idol runner-up, while others left before his set was over.

“It was so appallingly bad it wasn’t funny,” one punter told the tabloid. “He was virtually incoherent but couldn’t stop rambling and raving on about how proud he was to be a country boy – he just wasn’t making any sense.

“In the end people started booing and yelling out ‘just sing’ because he was making such a fool of himself.”

Shannon issued a public statement yesterday apologising to his fans, his band, and the festival’s organisers.

“There is nothing more important to me than performing live, and I have always prided myself on giving 100% percent to my fans. Last Saturday night I let everybody down and I am sincerely sorry,” he said.

“When I begin my national tour in June I look forward to proving to the Australian public why they have been justified in supporting me over the last four years.”

I’ve got to admit, I’m in two minds about this one. We’ve all had nights where we’ve drunk too much and done stupid things, but most of us don’t drink to excess before we have to stand up in front of a bunch of people. That’s just dumb. But it does take a big man to apologise for his mistakes, so I’ve got to give him credit for that. It probably won’t be enough for the casual punters who had to witness his drunken display, but it at least might be enough to earn back the respect of the fans.
