Sarah Blasko Gets Musical

Just 1000 Sarah Blasko fans will get their hands on a special limited edition of her new album As Day Follows Night. But lucky fans they will be. They’ll receive a special bonus disc featuring Sarah’s reinterpretations of her favorite songs from musicals.

Cinema Blasko includes “Seems Like Old Times” from Annie Hall, “Something Good” from The Sound of Music, “Maybe This Time” from Cabaret, “Out Here On My Own” from Fame, and “Xanadu” from Xanadu. It sounds completely worthwhile for “Xanadu’s” presence alone!

Sarah will sign all the special edition boxes, which will also include four magic ink reveal cards and a paintbrush for you to reveal the artwork.

Sarah fans will need to get to their local record store bright and early on July 10 to snap up the limited edition As Day Follows Night CDs.

Chk-Chk-Boom Girl Clare Werbeloff Ready to Assault Our Ears

Not content with her 15 minutes of fame as the Chk-Chk Boom Girl, Clare Werbeloff is heading to the recording studio to record an album.

Clare’s agent Max Markson has enlisted a team of songwriters to create some smash hit singles for the bogus crime scene witness.

Mr Markson says he has high hopes for Clare’s musical career, which she hopes is a stepping stone to becoming a television presenter.

Oh boy. Call me a skeptic. Perhaps she’s a diamond with a talent we never realised. But something tells me this is going to be a train wreck to rival the hype we’ve already endured. Perhaps we should just get her to record a single, rather than a full length album, and see how that goes, eh?

If you’re completely out of the loop and have no idea who I’m talking about, here’s the clip that shot Clare to fame plus her recent interview with Sunrise. To everyone else, I apologise for posting it.

"Inshalla" – Eskimo Joe

inshalla

Inshalla, the fourth album from Western Australian rockers Eskimo Joe, is sitting pretty at the top of the charts. Such a stunning debut is testimony to the band’s enduring popularity. The public’s faith hasn’t gone unrewarded, with the album delivering the goods from start to finish.

It kicks off with the current single, “Foreign Land,” a strong statement with its Eastern instrumentation and hook-laden chorus. The album doesn’t take its foot off the pedal, with the title track delivering another driving rock song. That’s what Eskimo does best, but this disc has its fair share of light and shade. “Don’t Let Me Down” is unexpectedly upbeat. “Please Elise” is another lighter slice, a love song with equal measures of desperation and cheek. “Childhood Behaviour” is earnest without being overblown, a completely convincing tale of a relationship moving from one phase to the next. Equally magnificent is the epic “Losing My Mind,” a breathtaking piece with pounding drums and relentless rhythms.

The world music influences are apparent throughout the album, adding texture without straying too far from Eskimo Joe’s reliable indie rock sensibility. The result is a disc that’s accessible on the first listen, yet a little richer with each subsequent spin.

A number one debut comes from hype and loyalty. But this is one album that deserves its dizzy ascent. Once word of mouth spreads, I’m sure it will maintain its place at the top of the charts for a few weeks yet.

Britney Spears Circus Tours Australia

Britney Spears is bringing her circus to Australia. The pop princess will tour Australia for the first time this November to support her Circus album.

“I’ve wanted to tour Australia for quite some time,” Britney said in a statement. “My Circus tour is the best show I have ever created and I can’t wait to perform it.”

The show features almost 50 performers, including a dance team, acrobats, aerial performers, contortionists, a fire breather, stilt walkers, and magicians. That makes the starting price of $99 seem quite reasonable. Although if you believe the rumours, that price doesn’t cover Britney singing live.

Either way, I’m sure fans will snap up the tickets when they go on sale on July 3.

Eskimo Joe Tops Albums Charts with "Inshalla"

Aussie rock trio Eskimo Joe is sitting pretty at the top of the ARIA charts with their fourth release Inshalla. The album debuted at number one, ending Eminem’s two-week reign with Relapse.

It’s an amazing achievement for the local lads considering how many massive albums are selling by the truckload. Pink’s massive Aussie tour kept her Funhouse album at number three, while Green Day’s 21st Century Breakdown slipped to number four.

“We’re honoured to be in this position on the charts and owe it all to our great fans, some who have been with us through our entire career and others that have just discovered us recently,” said Eskimo Joe lead singer Kav Temperley.

New Silverchair Album In the Works

Silverchair are teasing their fans with news that a new album is on the way … but not any time soon.

The Aussie three-piece recently spent three weeks in a remote New South Wales studio working on the follow-up to 2007’s monster record, Young Modern.

“They put down a bunch of ideas & Daniel has since gone away to write and develop the songs further,” reads a statement on the band’s website.

There are no release plans yet for the album, which is in the early stages of construction. The band know that’s a little disheartening for fans, so they’ve added a video to their website which offers some insight into their recent recording sessions.
