Delta Goodrem, Australian Idol Judge

Delta Goodrem will join Marcia, Kyle, and Dicko on the judging panel of this weekend’s Australian Idol auditions in Sydney.

“I’m actually at a great stage in my life at the moment to be able to help other artists,” Delta told The Daily Telegraph. “To be able to watch artists, and say maybe you can do this and also have a look and encourage everybody to come down.”

Delta may get some judging tips from her fiancé Brian McFadden, who sat in during the Melbourne auditions. But don’t expect Delta to be as tough as her main man!

“He was probably a lot harder than I would be,” she said. “I was like, ‘What do you mean you said that to somebody who sang my song, how dare you say that – you can’t say that.”’

Delta said she’ll be looking out for the technical ability and song choice.

“You need to be able to look at what has potential, and if people naturally have great instinct … that’s something you can really tell by choice of song.”

Idol is bagged by many sectors of the music industry, but Delta says she has nothing but respect for the show’s goal of discovering new talent.

“Where else are you meant to go? It’s what you do after it that’s really up to you. That’s where I find it really fascinating.”

After her Idol stint, Delta will return to the United States where she is trying to establish a career.

“I feel like it was a wonderful start and I hope I can go over there and continue it. It feels positive, it feels great,” she said.
