Abbe May on Tour With “Seventeen” Single and “Fruit” Album

Abbe May isn’t afraid to lay her heart and life bare in her new single “Seventeen,” an intimate reflection on her formative years and the experiences that shaped her.

I love this track’s dark brooding grittiness. Its sultry groove and Abbe’s vocals are also right on point. “Seventeen” was the first song written for Abbe’s new album Fruit, which is in stores now. It sets the theme for her first release since coming out last year.

“It took 30 years to be in a position to write this song. It’s intended as a letter for my niece to read when she turns 17, 21 and 28. It’s a love letter detailing all the stupid and wonderful things I’ve done in my life,” Abbe explained. “If she ever doubts herself, she’ll have this song to remind her everyone struggles but that it is finding purpose, not pleasure or happiness that makes life worth living.” said Abbe.

Abbe is currently touring Fruit around the country. Here are all the remaining dates.

Fall for Abbe May’s “Love Decline”

Western Australia’s Abbe May has long been a powerful female force on the Aussie music landscape, but I think her new single “Love Decline” may be her strongest yet. In a world full of optimistic saccharine love songs, its take on romance and seduction is refreshing. Its cool, sexy groove is also irresistible.

“Love Decline is about a self-centered kind of love, a decadence and a sadness which tracks the rise and fall of passionate love,” she explained. “I wrote ‘Love Decline’ after hearing an older man suggest that people don’t really fall in love after a certain age. He was talking about passionate love; the kind that requires a degree of foolish youthfulness. I found his romantic cynicism confronting. I’m still young and I’m still learning but I hope that old man wasn’t right about love being a load of crap.”

Whether the old man was right or not, he’s given Abbe one hell of a song!

Abbe May Readies Kiss My Apocalypse Tour

Aussie pop-rock wild child Abbe May is celebrating the recent release of her Kiss My Apocalypse album with her national tour.

The follow-up to her critically acclaimed debut Design Desire, the follow-up sees Abbe moving from retro, reverb-drenched music to a more stripped back approach. The guitars are turned down and the vocals move to the fore. However happily the attitude that made us sit up and take notice remains.

“Pop is sexy when done well and it’s incredibly difficult to do it well if you try too hard,” says Abbe. “We wanted to get away from music that took itself too seriously. I’m so tired of this whole shoe gaze – it-cost-a-lot-of-money-to get-a-haircut-that-looks-like-I-haven’t-brushed-my-hair-in-months type shitt. “Artists” in denial that they are basically just entertainers. Being an entertainer is more meaningful if you ask me. It’s not such a selfish pursuit.”

Expect plenty of entertainment and sass when Abbe embarks on her Kiss My Apocalypse tour.

Abbe May is T.R.O.U.B.L.E.

I’ve always found the music of Abbe May a bit hit and miss. When she was on, she floored me with her raw, feminine power. But when her musical experiments didn’t work, they left me cold. Thankfully she’s back to her best with her kickass new single “T.R.O.U.B.L.E”.

I love the way the electronic tones work with Abbe’s haunting falsetto. It’s all so very sexy and raw. There’s so much swagger about it. I love it. If this is the kind of music we can look forward to when Abbe releases her new album Kiss My Apocalypse in May, sign me up.

Abbe May’s Hot New Single, “Design Desire”

We first saw Perth’s Abbe May rocking out on her debut single “Mammalian Locomotion.” Now she’s back again with the equally dark and brooding follow-up, “Design Desire.”

There’s definitely more than a touch of the Patti Smith to Abbe, which is certainly not a bad thing. I’m in love with her big crunchy guitar riffs and rich, resonant vocals.

The song is the title track from Abbe’s debut album, which should be on record store shelves mid-year. Needless to say, I can’t wait!

Abbe May Gets Retro with “Mammalian Locomotion”

Don’t confuse her with Kylie; Perth girl Abbe May is introducing us to a very different kind of locomotion with her dark and brooding new single “Mammalian Locomotion.”

The title track from her forthcoming debut album features smoldering vocals and wailing guitars. Abbe May headed to Brooklyn to shoot this video with UK director Zena Loxton. If you love retro roller dancing, you’re going to lap this up.

Abbe May is currently touring Western Australia before she brings her music to the rest of the country with a national tour early next year. And from there? Why the world of course!
