Airbourne Announce Teaser Tour for Black Dog Barking

With their new album Black Dog Barking in stores, Airbourne are preparing to return home for a string of shows.

The Aussie expats should be in fine form when they reach our shores as they’ve scored slots at major European summer festivals including Rock im Park, Rock Am Ring, Metalfest, and Sonisphere. They’ll also play at the United Kingdom’s Metal Hammer Golden Gods Awards, where they’re nominated for best live bands.

Airbourne will kick off their Aussie tour in their hometown of Warrnambool before they head up the East Coast. Plenty of Aussie states are missing out at this point, but as this is being called a teaser tour hopefully fans around the rest of the nation will be able to see Airbourne soon.

Airbourne Announce Album Number Three

The last I heard of Airbourne they were slagging off local success stories like Wolfmother and Jet and insisting they’d treat Australia as nothing more than a tourist destination. They seemed confident that they would be the next big thing, but most of us forgot all about them.

They’re aiming to get back into the spotlight with the May 17 release of their third album Black Dog Barking.

“A lot of thought and effort has gone into this record not only by the band, but by the production crew who worked countless hours, seven days a week, even through Christmas and New Year’s Eve to achieve the best possible performances, backed by real undying tones,” the band said in a statement.

It remains to be seen whether this is the Airbourne album that lives up to the band’s (largely self-generated) hype.

Jet and Wolfmother Are Wannabes, Say Airbourne

Airbourne may have their sights set on finding new fans in America, but they’re certainly not going to make any new friends back home. Lead singer Joel O’Keefe has slammed other local success stories Jet and Wolfmother in an interview with Canada’s Chart Attack.

“Jet and Wolfmother are not for real. We are. That’s the difference. They’re not for real. They’re doing it to be cool, and you can tell,” he said.

“Wolfmother and Jet are a bad example of rock that comes out of Australia. They’re just carbon copies of something they want … they’re wannabes. They’re like American Idol or something like that. They’re not legit.”

Joel said Airbourne plan to focus on the American market and treat Australia as a “tourist destination.”

“We intend to move here [North America] for good. Australia will become a tourist destination for us. We’re all going to live in a house together. We’re here to get drunk and get wasted and have a party with everyone.”

Funnily enough, I don’t think Australia’s going to miss them. “Too Much, Too Young, Too Fast” was a minor hit, but they haven’t really made a big impression. And we don’t tend to like bands who turn their back on Oz and rubbish our other artists. Good riddance Airbourne!

Airbourne Take Flight to USA

Airbourne are the latest Aussie success story planning to leave their homeland for the bright lights of America.

I’m sure we’ll miss them, but they’re landing some massive gigs so it’s easy to see why they’re leaving! At the end of the month they’ll join Korn for a show in Salt Lake City, play with Kid Rock in San Francisco.

Albury’s Groovin’ The Moo Festival may be the last we get to see Airbourne play here for a while. They’ll move to the US in early 2008 to coincide with the worldwide release of Runnin’ Wild.

Airbourne Rocks the Airwaves

Does it ever seem like music is going soft? If you like your rock served straight up and dirty, you’ll want to check out Melbourne band Airbourne.

Their latest single “Too Much, Too Hard, Too Fast” forced Australia to sit up and take notice, and the rest of the world is sure to follow suit. The quartet just signed a deal with Roadrunner Records, which will see their music released in the United States and Europe.

“I am so excited we signed Airbourne,” gushed Ron Burman of Roadrunner. “They are a young, fists-in-the-air, high-energy, in-your-face type of hard rock band. I saw them play a few times in Austin at South by Southwest, and they blew me away.”

Airbourne’s debut album, Runnin’ Wild, was released in Australia in June. It is slated for global release in early 2008.
