Aluka Tours Debut Album

They charmed me with their single “Keep My Cool” and their recent work with Tomas Strode & The Tour Guides. And now finally, Aluka have announced that their new album, Space, will hit stores soon.

Space sees Aluka three-piece experimenting with genre. There’s some jazz, some hip hop, some hymns, and even some good old fashioned pop music. The a capella three-piece shunned a traditional studio for far more interesting surrounds. What other act can say they’ve recorded at a swimming pool, a barn, and a World War II bunker? You can be the judge whether the girls’ daring has paid off when Space drops on April 5.

Aluka will support the album’s release with the following headline shows.

11 April 2013 – Camelot Lounge, Sydney
12 April 2013 – Salamanca Arts Centre, Hobart
17 April 2013 – Black Bear Lodge, Brisbane
19 April 2013 – Nexus Arts Centre, Adelaide
3 May 2013 – Northcote Uniting Church, Melbourne

Aluka Joins Tomas Strode & The Tour Guides for “Broken Road”

Tomas Strode & The Tour Guides have enlisted singing goddesses Aluka for their brand new single, “Broken Road.”

I love the way that the angelic voices of the Melbourne a capella trio complement Tomas’ rawer, more masculine tone. The melding of these very distinctive sounds adds an extra rich layer to the exquisite lyrics and pretty melody of this new single. It’s not a song that screams the loudest, but it’s really something special.

If you like what you hear, make sure you head to Tomas Strode & The Tour Guides’ Bandcamp page. This generous band is giving the track away for free! If you’d prefer an old fashioned, physical copy, make sure you get to the band’s single launch at Melbourne’s Workers Club on March 27. All tickets come with a complimentary copy of “Broken Road.”

Aluka Keep Their Cool

The release of Aluka’s debut single “Keep My Cool” shows these girls are a force to be reckoned with.

The song is a sparse, cheeky pop gem with some of the most devastating, stripped back vocals I’ve ever heard. Talk about making a first impression! The track is the first lifted from Aluka’s debut album, which will hit stores next March.

That album promises to be pretty interesting, with tracks recorded at unconventional Melbourne locations including swimming pools and war bunkers. Who needs a studio, right?

You don’t have to wait until March to hear more from this dynamic trio though. Aluka will launch the single with two very special shows next month. Catch them at The Toff in Melbourne on November 7 or The Newsagency in Sydney on November 9.
