Angie McMahon Playing Everywhere With New Single Release

Angie McMahon is scoring some high-profile supporting gigs of late, warming up crowds for Alanis Morissette earlier this year and preparing to do the same with Angus and Julia Stone later this year. But if she keeps releasing songs the calibre of new single “Missing Me,” the follow-up to “Slow Mover,” she’s going to graduate to permanent headliner before too long.

“Missing Me” is another strong indie rock ballad that packs a serious emotional wallop. There’s so much tension and angst in Angie’s resonate, husky voice. It’s a different kind of female voice than the one we typically hear in music, and it really strikes a chord with me.

Angie says “’Missing Me’ is about releasing all that punchy sass and angst that bubbles under the surface when somebody isn’t listening to you, or they’re letting you down, or breaking your heart.”

Angie has plenty of dates scheduled between headlining her single shows and supporting Angus & Julia Stone. Here are all the places you can catch her in the coming months.

Angus and Julia Stone on Top of ARIA Albums Charts

We’ve got two new number ones this week, and one of them is from our very own Angus and Julia Stone. The beloved brother-sister team have claimed the top spot with their self-titled album, their third LP and second number one album.

It’s an all-Aussie podium, with local acts also claiming the second and third slots. At number two we’ve got Sydney hip hop act One Day with their debut album Mainline. They’ve pipped Sticky Fingers, who’ve improved on the highest position of their debut album by a whopping 36 places with the follow-up, Land of Pleasure.

5 Seconds of Summer are also going great guns with their self-titled debut. It sits at number eight this week. Sheppard round out the top ten Bombs Away.

Sadly we don’t have any Aussie singles in the top ten this week. With 5 Seconds of Summer on the way up with “Amnesia,” hopefully that changes soon.

Click below for this week’s top tens.

New Song Obsession: "Hollywood" by Angus & Julia Stone

With their stripped back instrumentation and folky vocals, Aussie outfit Angus & Julia Stone create some of my favourite chill-out music. Right now I’m digging their latest single “Hollywood.” If you’ve got their brilliant debut A Book Like This in your collection, you know it already. For anyone who doesn’t hopefully it’ll turn you on to this fantastic local duo. The trippy dreamscape filmclip is the perfect accompaniment for this beautiful tune. Sit back and enjoy it!

Angus and Julia Stone Seek World Domination

Angus and Julia Stone’s amazing debut album A Book Like This has just gone platinum in Australia! Far from an overnight sensation, this slow burning record has taken nearly a year to achieve the status.

Having won Australia’s hearts, this brother-sister folk outfit are enjoying the summer festival season in Europe. They’re playing major events in the Netherlands, Germany, and Scotland and earning rave reviews.

The quiet duo seem hell-bent on world domination, because their next stop with be the United States of America. They’ll release A Book Like This in September, and follow up on their promo tour with some more shows in November.

Look out world – Angus and Julia Stone are coming! Here are the current confirmed tour dates, but there are plenty more to come!

8 August 2008 – Belladrum Festival, Scotland
11 August 2008 – Liquid Rooms @ The Edge Festival, Edinburgh, Scotland

Angus and Julia Stone Tour the World

The coolest brother and sister duo around, Angus and Julia Stone, have just wrapped up their sold-out Australian tour, but don’t expect them to sit idly for too long. After a short break, the Sydney siblings are heading overseas to join the European summer festival circuit.

The Stones will kick off their European jaunt with an appearance at Ledbury’s Big Chill Festival on August 1. From there they’ll play festivals in Scotland, Holland, and Germany, and a very special gig at The Roundhouse in London.

Angus and Julia Stone have earned rave reviews in Europe for their album A Book Like This, so this tour should be huge for them. UNCUT described it as “A triumph of intimacy,” while MOJO said “The virtue’s in the detail.”

After The Stones conquer Europe they’ll head to the USA for their first ever shows in support of their American album release. Then it’s back to Europe for a full tour, because they head back here in December!

If you can’t wait quite that long for your Angus and Julia Stone fix, make sure you catch their recent performance at The Basement. It’ll screen on ABC 1 on Thursday July 31 at 11 pm.
