“SH!T YEAH” – Between You & Me

Between You & Me are ushering in a new chapter with the release of their first independent body of work, SH!T YEAH. Made of six absolute pop-punk bangers, this release shows these guys are more than capable of forging their own path in the music scene.

They make a strong statement opening with “Kill My Vibe”, a collaboration with their former touring partners Knuckle Puck. Between You & Me go toe to toe with the U.S. heavyweights, proving they’re just as big a force to be reckoned with. It’s such a fun, feel-good song which gets backed up with the single “In The Middle”. “Nevermind” celebrates the simple things in life. It’s an anti-rock star anthem if you will about being content with your material lot even as you strive for musical success. “Every Morning” (no, not the Sugar Ray song) sees Between You & Me at their sexiest. If the lyrics didn’t already get me excited enough, the electric guitar solo takes this track over the edge. “YEAH!” takes a little dig at Insta culture while reminding us what really matters. “Sad Songs” rounds out this EP which is the definition of all killer, no filler. With big chords and a singalong chorus, it leaves the listener on such a high.

With most tracks clocking in at around the three-minute mark or less, SH!T YEAH is short and oh so sweet. As if there was any doubt, it establishes this band as one of the best modern pop-punk outfits, not just in Australia but on the world stage. They’ve got the goods. Listen, enjoy it, and make sure you snag a ticket to one of their upcoming shows.

Between You & Me Coming in Hot With “In the Middle” Single

Between You & Me are one of the best pop-punk acts around, so I’m pretty psyched to hear they’ve got a whole bunch of new music coming our way. They’ve just dropped their latest single “In the Middle,” which offers a taste of what’s in store when they release their new EP SH!T YEAH on April 5.

“‘In The Middle’ is about the realisation that your relationship is over,” said vocalist JT. “The strong joy and excitement you once brought to each other’s lives had been replaced with fighting, bitterness and a complete breakdown in communication. Even despite this, you both yearn for it to work out and dream of the better times. You break up, you get back together, and the cycle continues, despite both recognising you had grown apart as people and the trust for each other was irreparable. The song encapsulates the slow breakdown of a relationship and the acceptance in moving on.”

Between You & Me seem set for global domination. They’re currently playing gigs in the United Kingdom and will head to North America in March to headline shows on the continent for the very first time. Hopefully it won’t be too long before we see them back on Aussie soil. Until then, international readers, make sure you check them out at a venue near you.

Between You & Me Drop Nostalgic Summer Banger, “YEAH!”

Between You & Me have gone old-school with their latest single “YEAH!” and I’m here for it. With its nostalgic feel, you’ll want to add this track to your favourite summer playlist.

“I imagine this song playing in the montage scene of an early 2000s bratty comedy film,” admitted BYAM frontman Jake Wilson. “Stylistically it’s a big shift for BYAM, but we wanted to bring beachy summer vibes to a fun and carefree song.”

Their sound might have evolved, but this track sees BYAM collaborating again with Canadian producer Sam Guaiana, who flew to Australia earlier this year to record with the band.

BYAM have just announced a UK tour, but don’t stress if you’re a homegrown fan. I hear we can expect more new music and new local shows really soon, so there’s a lot for BYAM fans to look forward to! If you are in the UK, here’s those brand new dates:

16 February 2024 – Thekla, Bristol
17 February 2024 – Key Club, Leeds
18 February 2024 – Cathouse, Glasgow

Somber Hills & Between You & Me Team Up on “Sometimes (My Brain Doesn’t Work)”

Between You & Me are dropping some of the best collaborations around right now. Fresh from teaming up with BESTIES on “two wrongs,” they’ve just dropped a new track with Somber Hills called “Sometimes (My Brain Doesn’t Work).” It’s got a great vibe, but make sure you tap in to the lyrics which explore the challenges Somber Hills faces living with ADHD.

“I’m a dopamine missing thrill seeking degen that has learned to live with a brain that’s always searching for stimulus. This song is accepting who you are and all you’ve done with a note to self, ‘I will continue to grow,’” Somber Hills explained. “It hurts to accept the truth about yourself, it hurts to accept that things could’ve been different but you can’t start your next step until you accept those things. That’s what happened while this track was in the making.”

This is just the first of a bunch of new singles Somber Hills plans to release in the coming months as part of a potential larger body of work. I hear he’s also planning plenty of shows to support all this new music, so make sure you’re following him on the socials for all the news of those gigs as soon as they’re announced.

BESTIES and Between You & Me Team Up For “two wrongs”

BESTIES and Between You & Me have joined forces for an epic new single, “two wrongs.” I’ve covered music from both these outfits before, so this track was always going to be up my alley. However, the collaboration is even better than I hoped for. Hit play and you’ll hear exactly what I mean.

“We wanted to write the soundtrack to a rom-com set during a global cataclysm,” admitted BESTIES’ vocalist Max Pasalic. “It’s Love Actually meets Day After Tomorrow.”

“two wrongs” is just the start of plenty of new music set to drop for BESTIES in the coming months. They’ve just wrapped up a tour supporting none other than Between You & Me, but they’re not going into hibernation just yet. They’re set to play the following shows for SXSW Sydney:

18 October 2023 – British Music Embassy @ The Soda Factory, Eora/Surry Hills (from 7 pm)
21 October 2023 – Dr Martens Presents @ The Chippo Hotel, Eora/Chippendale (from 3pm)

Between You & Me Drop New Single “Nevermind” Ahead of U.S. and Local Shows

Aussie pop-punk outfit Between You & Me are going from strength to strength, and it’s time for the world to know it. They’ve just dropped their fantastic new single “Nevermind” and announced U.S. dates with Real Friends and Knuckle Puck. After taking America by storm for the second time (they toured the country with State Champs in the back end of 2022), they’ll be back on local soil for their own shows.

“We knew that the next song we released after Armageddon was going to be tough because we put all that we had into the album and are very proud of what we were able to create together,” explained frontman Jake Wilson. “Since our band is now independent, there felt like a lot of added pressure to prove a lot of people wrong and remind everyone that we’re still here and we aren’t dropping off anytime soon.

“As we’re growing in our career and as individuals we’ve enjoyed playing with different genres and finding our niche. ‘Nevermind’ is the next chapter for BYAM that perfectly captures the spirit of our band and our live show.”

“Nevermind” is the first single lifted from Between You & Me’s EP, which will drop in September. They’ll announce dates for their world tour, including headlining shows around Australia, really soon, so keep an eye on their socials.

Melanie Dyer Releases Heartbreaking New Song, “Cheating on Me”

Make sure you’ve got tissues on hand before you press play on Melanie Dyer’s new single “Cheating on Me”. This heartbreaking song recalls Melanie’s own experiences with an unfaithful partner. You can hear the pain in her voice as she delivers this one.

“I knew this song would be my hardest to write and I realised I needed to take my time to really sit with my emotions to understand what it was that I needed to say,” she explained. “While this song is my most personal yet, I feel like it’s also relatable for so many people. for anyone whose lost themselves, whether that’s in a relationship or situation where they haven’t been true to themselves. It’s about leaving someone to be with yourself.”

“Cheating on Me” is the latest track lifted from Melanie’s new album Between You & Me, which is slated for released on September 9. To celebrate its release, Melanie will hit the road with Caitlyn Shadbolt, her collaborator on previous single “Dumb Decisions”. “Armageddon” – Between You & Me

I’ve been sitting on Between You & Me’s new album Armageddon since September, just waiting for the moment when I could encourage all of you to take a listen. I’ve had it on regular rotation since it landed in my inbox, turning to it whenever I needed to energise my day or exorcise my demons. The high-energy pop-punk tracks make me nostalgic for that time in the late ‘90s and early ‘00s when bands like Blink-182, Green Day, and Good Charlotte ruled the airwaves. The bands that make that kind of music seem few and far between these days, but I’m glad Australia has Between You & Me flying the flag.

Like a movie that grips you in front of the screen, Armageddon moves along at an exciting pace. With just 10 tracks and all but one clocking in under four minutes, you never get the chance to get bored here. There’s no filler here either. The tracks are ridiculously catchy. The powerful vocals from frontman Jake Wilton are so compelling. The band is right there supporting him with big punky guitar chords, driving drums, and cool bass simmering under the surface. These guys are so tight. Some might argue that punk should be a little messier than this, but it’s a joy to listen to.

Opening track “Pleased to Meet You” is a great introduction for the uninitiated, bold and ballsy with a chorus that encourages you to yell along. The single “Deadbeat” first turned me onto this band, and it’s lost none of its self-deprecating charm since the first time I heard it. These plenty of angsty material here to satisfy your inner emo kid, including “Goldfish” and “Supervillain.” Those darker moments are balanced with more optimistic numbers like “Change” and “Better Days.” “Go To Hell,” a collaboration with female-fronted contemporaries Yours Truly is a real treat for fans of the local scene. The album closes with the title track, the only song on the album stretching past the 4-minute mark. It’s the album’s most ambitious track, an epic rock number that gives a hint that this band can do even more than we’re hearing.

What Between You & Me have laid down on Armageddon is so much fun, but they’ve also left me excited about what their next step might be. With a three-year gap between this album and their debut effort, hopefully they won’t leave us waiting too long for the follow-up.

Discover New Between You & Me Track, “Deadbeat”

Aussie punk-rock act Between You & Me are set to inject some energy into your weekend with their bold new single “Deadbeat.” The track sees frontman Jake Wilton coming to terms with his own shortcomings.

“Being in a band, I am often away from home for long periods of time. Whilst at home, I also found myself prioritising my own endeavours over my relationship. During the pandemic, I was able to spend a lot more time with my girlfriend and I felt a sense of remorse for the unwavering support that she gave me whilst I was absorbed in my own career. ‘Deadbeat’ is a self-reflection of my behaviours as a boyfriend and how I recognised I needed to do better.”

“Deadbeat” comes from Between You & Me’s sophomore LP, which is coming at you really soon. With three years passing since their debut Everything is Temporary, fans will be fired up for new material, especially if it’s all as good as this track!
