See Ya 2014!

So here it is, my last post for 2014. Time for me to grab a glass of champers and get the party started away from my computer. But I felt it was fitting to leave you with a little something. So in case you missed it when it was on Triple J recently, here is the final Like a Version for the year, Bluejuice and a host of special guests (including Ngaiire, Elana Stone, the guys from The Griswolds, and Andy Bull) covering “End of the Road.” It’s amazing. Farewell 2014 and bring on 2015!

Bluejuice Announce Farewell Tour

After 13 fabulous years, it’s sad to realise that Bluejuice will kick off their final tour at the end of the month. Thankfully they’re leaving us with a tour and a greatest hits album, including the fun new single “I’ll Go Crazy,” before they depart, but it’s still a bit bittersweet.

The album Retrospectable will feature the best bits from Bluejuice’s three studio albums as well as some brand new songs. Get it on September 19, a couple of the days ahead of that farewell tour. Thankfully there are a couple of under 18s shows as well as some licensed events so everyone can bid the band adieu. Don’t expect a John Farnham style goodbye here. Once they’re gone, they’re gone!

Arrested Development Headlines Cockatoo Island Film Festival’s Concert Series

There’ll be more than movies at the 2012 Cockatoo Island Film Festival. The event will see the historic Sydney island transformed into an entertainment hub, with cinema screens and live music stages, from October 25 to 27.

Arrested Development will grace the main stage on Thursday October 25 as part of their 20th anniversary tour. Bluejuice and Jinja Safari will follow the American hip hop act on October 26, and Matt Corby will close the festival with another licensed all ages show on October 27.

If you want to party on after those acts make sure you head to the Precinct Nightclub. Artists like Gossling, Saskwatch, the Future Classic DJs, and Halfway Crooks will be pumping out tunes from 10 pm to the early hours of the morning.

Tickets for all Cockatoo Island Film Festival shows are available now through Moshtix.

Temper Trap, Missy Higgins, and Bluejuice Play Soundscape

The fifth annual Soundscape Festival is shaping up to be the best yet, with The Temper Trap, Missy Higgins, and Bluejuice all taking their place on the bill.

Soundscape will settle into its new home at Prices Wharf Shed No. 1, on Castray Esplanade in Hobart on November 16 and 17. The location isn’t the only change this year. The festival’s moved from January to November to avoid stifling heat, and downsized the available tickets. That means fewer queues and more intimate performances.

Tickets are on sale now from the Soundscape Festival website.

Bluejuice Tour Unis

Bluejuice will entertain the country’s scholars next month with a tour of Australian universities, and a few honorary converted clubs. Their Winter of Our Discotheque tour kicks off at Newcastle Uni’s Bar on the Hill and wraps up almost three weeks later at Lismore’s SCU campus.

It’s all about Bluejuice reinventing their own experiences of winter as a uni student. The kids might still be shivering and unable to afford any meals of substance, but they’ll be entertained. If you’re looking for extra value (and what uni student isn’t?) make sure you turn up early to see support acts Deep Sea Arcade and The Preachers.

Blueju!ce Back with “Company” Album Tour

It’s been some time since Blueju!ce burst onto the airwaves with “Broken Leg.” But now they’re back with a brand new album called Company, and a national tour in the works.

Company was released late last year to relatively little fanfare, but it has the critics buzzing. Its high energy pop tunes should easily translate to the stage. Hopefully this tour will encourage more people to listen to the disc that many believe is the band’s best and most consistent. If you still haven’t snagged the album you can purchase a digital version for just $10 when you bundle it with your concert tickets.

Young music lovers should note that Blueju!ce have announced some all ages and under 18s gigs for the very first time. If you’ve always wanted to see Blueju!ce kids, this is your chance!

Bacardi Express Ready to Board

All aboard the Bacardi Express! The travelling concert will feature UK dance outfit Groove Armada alongside local acts British India, Bluejuice, Van She, and Lost Valentinos.

“Selecting the acts for the Bacardi Express is no mean feat as we need to ensure a good mix of genres and, more importantly, personality and stamina for this 48 hour journey,” festival organisers said.

“Eating, sleeping, jamming and partying in such close proximity is all part of the tour and we have to ensure everyone is up for that.”

The train will depart Melbourne on March 26. It’ll make stops at Wagga Wagga and Wollongong before arriving in Sydney on March 28.

You can win your seat on the train by visiting the Bacardi Express website.
