Carla Webhe Releases Romantic Pop Gem, “Gentle With Me”

Carla Webhe has gotten under my skin with her gorgeous new single “Gentle With Me.” This indie-pop track is such a cool slow burner with some powerful lyrics about finding the right relationship.

“Some people teach you love by breaking you, and ‘Gentle With Me’ is about the rare kind that teaches you by staying,” she said. “It’s strange when someone doesn’t punish you for being fragile and ‘Gentle With Me’ is about learning to trust in the gentleness to feel safe being vulnerable.”

“Gentle With Me” comes from Carla’s new EP Dark in the Light, which she’ll release on June 5.

Merry Christmas from Sounds of Oz!

Merry Christmas Sounds of Oz readers! I haven’t posted any Christmas music so far because honestly I’m a bit hard to please. I hate when songs feel like crash grabs. I hold my Christmas tunes to exactly the same standards as any other music. And as you all know, if it’s not good I just don’t share it. But I couldn’t let December 25 go by without sharing the best original Christmas song I’ve heard this year, “christmas doesn’t feel the same without you” by Carla Wehbe.

“‘christmas doesn’t feel the same without you’ is really just about missing somebody at Christmas,” she said. “This time of year is really happy and magical for most people, but for a lot of people it’s actually quite a sad or lonely and isolating time, and this song is about that side of Christmas.”

I hope that all my readers feel loved and supported this Christmas. Whether you’re around family or chosen family or you’re spending the day alone, I hope you can carve out some time to be happy. Even just for a few moments listening to this song. I wish you all the very best for the holiday season.

Carla Webhe Enchants With “knight To e5”

Eora/Sydney singer-songwriter Carla Wehbe has floored me with her new single “knight To e5.” It’s an emotional slow burner that builds so beautifully to a powerful crescendo. I really felt this one. This is how you get people excited about your upcoming EP.

“If you’re a Harry Potter fan you might get the title reference from the first film. In the same way Ron sacrifices his knight so Harry could win the game of wizards chess, the concept of ‘Knight To E5’ is about sacrificing your happiness or self for the happiness of someone you care about, essentially putting them before you,” Carla explained. “It’s one of the more heartbreaking songs I’ve written, which touches on deep regret and the fear of not living your life for yourself because you’re trying to protect someone else’s happiness.”

As I mentioned, Carla has a new EP on the way. Listen out for Jupiter and Mars when it drops on March 24.
