Merry Christmas!

I hope you’re all enjoying your Christmas Day! Wherever you are in Australia, and whoever you’re spending the festive season with, I hope it’s merry, jolly, and all of those other positive adjectives that we only trot out at this time of year.

Personally, I’ll just hope my mother doesn’t find her Peppermint Candy Kids CDs. I’d much rather listen to something like this smooth version of “O Holy Night” by Barry Southgate. Who needs a band when you can do your own backing vocals like this?

Merry Christmas!

Merry Christmas Sounds of Oz readers. I hope that whatever you’re doing for the holidays you’re enjoying it.

I’ve probably been up since the wee small hours, because I’m still a big kid at Christmas. I’m wearing oversized bell earrings and a tacky necklace with flashing lights which is likely to annoy my younger sisters immensely. I’m sure I’m drinking and eating too much, but sometimes that’s the best way to deal with the small children that inevitably come with family get togethers. I’ve also probably been thoroughly spoiled by my husband and parents. They’re good like that.

I’m certainly not working. I wrote this post well in advance so I could take the day off. I think after a busy year of blogging I deserve the rest, don’t you? I’ll leave you with The Bedroom Philosopher’s very unique take on “12 Days of Christmas” which comes from his A Very Beddy Christmas EP. With a vengeful ex-girlfriend sending the “gifts”, it’s far from the usual seasonal fare!

Earl Cole & Chelsea J Gibson Announce Christmas Show

Western Australia’s Earl Cole and Chelsea J Gibson are ringing in the silly season with a festive dinner and show at Perth’s Bouchon Bistro on December 21.

A Swinging Christmas will see the local duo performing seasonal songs including “Winter Wonderland,” “Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas,” and my personal holiday favourite, “Baby It’s Cold Outside.”

Everyone’s budget is stretched tight at this time of year, but tickets are quite reasonable at $110 for the show and a three-course dinner. You can book yours by calling Bouchon Bistro on (08) 9387 3898.

Merry Christmas!

Merry Christmas Sounds of Oz readers! I hope you’re all enjoying the day, spending time with your families or friends, eating too much, and playing with a few shiny new toys. Unless you scored a new laptop, there’s probably no reason for you to be online reading my blog!

But if you are, thank you, and here’s some Tim Minchin for your trouble. This gorgeous Christmas tune, “White Wine in the Sun,” really captures the Aussie experience of Christmastime. It’s certainly more poignant than any songs about winter wonderlands, isn’t it? So enjoy dear readers, and have yourself a merry little Christmas!

Free Scott Spark Christmas Tune

Scott Spark’s spreading a little festive cheer with his new track “Last Christmas (What Do You Say?)”

Don’t confuse this song with the campy Wham number. It’s a beautiful piano driven tune, the kind of thing perfect for spinning late at night when you’re sipping on eggnog or brandy.

And it wouldn’t be Christmas if you couldn’t get it for free, would it? Click on the link and this lush seasonal song is yours!

Perth’s Rosemount Hotel Not So Silent for Christmas

Perth’s Rosemount Hotel will ring in the silly season next Saturday night with its Not So Silent Night party. This annual event is so big it’s going to take one stage inside the venue and another one in the street to get things done!

This year’s party is set to be one of the best ever with acts from all over the country. Local rockers Sugar Army heads up the bill, which also features Sydney indie act Cabins, Adelaide’s Coerce, Young Revelry, Grim Fandango, The Caballeros, and The Growl. And that’s just for starters.

Doors open at 4 pm for this big Christmas bash. Get your tickets from Planet Video, Mills Records, Star Perth, and Heatseeker.
