Cookin’ on 3 Burners Feature Stella Angelico on Fire New Single, “I’m Comin’ Home to You”

I might be biased, but I think Australia has one of the best modern soul scenes on the planet. The United States might get all the accolades, but I think we definitely punch above our weight. Cookin’ On 3 Burners make some of the best local soul around. If you’re not already across their incredible music, their latest single “I’m Comin’ Home to You” tells you everything you need to know.

This track is a straight-up feel-good bop featuring Stella Angelico on vocals. Stella has been a constant presence at the group’s live shows, so you can pretty much call her the fourth member of the group. And with vocals like this, why wouldn’t you?

“As soon as I heard this one, I knew I wanted to write on it. It conjured images of water sparkling in the sun, bright blue skies, riding a bike on a warm night,” Stella said. “I was thinking of Sicily, I was thinking of Melbourne, where I’ve grown up and feel most at home – and where we chose to shoot the gorgeous, very domestic cover shots with Jo Duck. I was thinking of coming home to someone you love, coming home to yourself…”

As an added bonus, “I’m Comin’ Home to You” is bundled on the streaming services with “Whole Woman,” a beautiful ballad also featuring Stella’s serious vocal talents. It’s like two sides of a very soulful coin that I know you’ll really dig.

Cookin’ On 3 Burners’ New Single “The World is Cold” Worth the Wait

The always reliable Cookin’ On 3 Burners are back with their first new music of the year, a sensational new single “The World is Cold.” With special appearances from Mantra and Jane Tyrrell, this track is such a cool blend of hip hop, soul, and funk sounds.

“Through bushfires and a global pandemic, this new 45 has been a long time coming,” the band admitted. “We are in love with the lyrical heat that this collab with Mantra and Jane Tyrrell has brought to our sound. Excited to bring this smoking new Burners 7-inch vinyl to the people.”

As if that wasn’t enough, we also get a cool new instrumental B-side, the band’s take on Mos Def’s “Ms. Fat Booty.” It’s almost like the band understands we’ve waited a long time for new music and they’re rewarding our patience. They’ve also got a few shows announced for the coming months. See these guys doing what they do best at the following venues:

27 November 2021 – Macedon Railway Hotel, Macedon
5 March 2022 – Royal Oak Hotel, Launceston
6 Mar 2022 – Longley International Hotel, Hobart
18 Mar 2022 – Corner Hotel, Richmond

“Lab Experiments Vol. 2” – Cookin’ on 3 Burners

Sequels have a bad reputation. They’re often released as a desperate attempt to cash in on the success of the first creative endeavour, yet they typically pale in comparison to the original. For every The Godfather Part II there’s a dozen disasters like Jaws: The Revenge or Speed 2: Cruise Control. So it’s only natural to approach Lab Experiments Vol. 2 with a healthy degree of scepticism. Thankfully Melbourne’s favourite funksters Cookin’ on 3 Burners deliver the goods.

It bursts out of the gates with a joyous explosion of Hammond organ chords with the instrumental single “The Jump Off.” The flip side of that double A-side, “Warning,” comes next, with guest vocalist Kait delivering plenty of sass. “Howler” surprises, a darkly dramatic instrumental which could serve as the soundtrack to your Halloween parties. It’s an unexpected detour, but I appreciate that Cookin’ on 3 Burners keeps us on our toes. “Force of Nature” has such a great Motown groove, with Fallon Williams’ gritty yet soulful lead vocals backed by a choir of gospel angels. Longtime collaborator Kylie Auldist is back with the Burners for the soulful “One of the Ones.” Magic always happens when these guys get together, and this track is no exception. Closing number “Garden of Freedom” is made so much sweeter with the addition of The Meltdown’s cooler than cool frontman Simon Burke.

Cookin’ on 3 Burners have such an incredible sound, which builds on soul and funk traditions and makes them feel so fresh. But it’s those collaborations that really make Lab Experiments Vol. 2 so special. Rubbing shoulders with the right people elevates their sound, ensuring Lab Experiments Vol. 2 is a sequel worth spending your money on.

Lab Experiments Vol. 2 is released today.

Cookin’ On 3 Burners Teams Up With Kaiit For Funky New Single “Warning”

If “Warning” doesn’t have you grooving around your office this Friday afternoon, you’ve got more willpower than me. The latest single from Cookin’ On 3 Burners features silky smooth vocals from up-and-coming soul chanteuse Kaiit. While the musical pairing is brand new, Kaiit and the Burners developed a lasting friendship through the Dig Deep mentorship program.
