COTERIE Covers “Slice of Heaven” with Sir Dave Dobbyn

“Slice of Heaven” is one of the great all-time bangers. I remember falling in love with this song as a kid, and it’s lost none of its appeal for me. So I’m thrilled to hear that New Zealand born, Aussie based band COTERIE have brought the song back. They’ve stuck true to the original, even enlisting the help of original singer Sir Dave Dobbyn. However, the instrumentation is a bit fresher for the current generation. Way to bring the nostalgia guys!

COTERIE have just wrapped up a string of dates with the Cat Empire, but they’re not quite ready to slow down. They’ve got a few festival appearances this year before Bluesfest in 2024.

COTERIE Ready to Headline First National Tour

I meant to write an article about COTERIE’s upcoming tour yesterday. Instead, I found myself travelling down the rabbit hole listening to their music and remembering just how much I love it. I’m still listening today, but I’m a bit more focused on the task at hand!

With Western Australian borders shut for so long, this will be the first time COTERIE have headlined an Aussie tour. Fans have wasted no time snapping up tickets, with several shows already sold out or getting close to it. COTERIE have just wrapped up a tour supporting Kiwi group SIX60, so they’re in fine form right now. Head to their website to get your tickets, because you don’t want to miss out.

COTERIE Serve Up New Summer Single “Cool It Down”

You might have noticed I’ve been MIA for a while. My husband is seriously ill in a Sydney hospital so my focus has shifted away from the music. I’m not sure when I’ll get back to regular blogging, but I know you’ll all be patient with me. Thankfully, this post is one that I prepared earlier.

In case there was any doubt that summer’s here, Perth band COTERIE has just dropped a scorching new single that dripping in summer vibes. “Cool It Down” is a soulful new track with a hint of reggae that’s taking me to happy hour on the coast.

“’We caught it all when we korero, now I’m longing for the sweet shores of Aotearoa’ – this lyric sums it up, Aotearoa is our home but so is West Coast Drive, and as long as we have these coastlines, we know we’re all good!” explained frontman Tyler Fisher of the song’s inspiration.

COTERIE recently completed a five-date run of Western Australia shows performing to capacity crowds in Scarborough, Perth, Fremantle, Bunbury, and Margaret River for the West Australian Guitar Fest. As the world begins to open up, it’s exciting to hear the band are busily mapping out plans for travelling around the country and the world in 2022.

COTERIE Impress With “Bless My Soul”

With the release of their new single “Bless My Soul,” Perth act COTERIE have reminded me just how much I love them. This is such a stellar track, anchored by Tyler Fisher’s soulful vocals and that gorgeous piano melody. I’m not a religious person, but I imagine listening to this track delivers the same sort of catharsis people feel after a powerful sermon. In short, it’s really good.

“Obsessively questioning our decisions, and the constant second-guessing we put into becoming the “right” person, can sometimes hold us back from being that person in the first place,” Tyler explained of the song’s inspiration.

Crank this one up and I swear it’ll make your day better.

COTERIE’s Single “In the Fire” is Scorching

“In the Fire,” the latest single from Perth band of brothers COTERIE, is my latest song obsession. It’s such an earnest and emotional number, which builds to a fabulous rock crescendo. It also goes to show just what you can do away from a big studio.

“We’ve been recording at home in our garage for years, but this is the first time we’re releasing a home job!” admitted frontman Tyler Fisher. “We had written what I think was a great rock song, driving and swirling guitars and a lyric that put you in a different time and all that, but something just wasn’t sitting right. So we wrote another version … and another version …. and another … until all we had left of the original, was the chorus. At this point we called in one of our good buddies, Oscar from Holy Holy … With his production magic and all-round experience, we birthed something we’re all pretty proud of.”

I’m personally thrilled they kept the garage rock version. This song is so emotive, I think it might lose something if you smoothed its edges. This raw, powerful track also suggests just how good COTERIE are live. If you’re in Western Australia, catch them at the following shows.

COTERIE Give Me The Feels With “Say Goodbye”

Perth band of brothers COTERIE have totally won my heart with their latest single “Say Goodbye.” This song is so good, with quality songwriting and haunting vocals that hit me right in the heart. By the time those harmonies kicked in, I was gone.

“We wrote this in our lounge-room with Hauskey – who is absolutely brilliant – and honestly, it was just a song that fell out. It all happened in about half an hour,” admitted Tyler, the band’s lead singer and vocalist. “It’s about the humanity of everything in this life. Nothing is forever … Saying goodbye is inevitable in a fleeting world. We wrote this song with that in mind; everyone knows this feeling – we all ‘Say Goodbye’ at some point.”

COTERIE filmed the song’s video inside a bus which the brothers bought as a potential tour bus once they can hit the road again. They started restoring it at the start of the global pandemic, and through the video you can see how far they’ve come.

When they’re not renovating buses, COTERIE have been putting together a live show that’s set to blow the socks off their growing fanbase. Check them out at the following shows, which are hopefully the first announcements of many for this band.

Perth Brother Act Coterie Stuns With “Salvation”

Perth act Coterie speaks to the heart with their moving sophomore single “Salvation.” This band of brothers was raised on a musical diet of R’n’B mixtapes and Jimi Hendrix, but this song reminds me of Hozier or Rag’n’Bone Man with its bluesy gospel feel.

The music video for “Salvation” was filmed at Fremantle Prison, and it has just the right mix of darkness and hope.

Coterie might be relatively new on the scene, but these guys have the kind of chemistry that comes from jamming together your whole life. Discover why they might just be your new favourite band at one of their upcoming shows.
