Crooked Saint ‘s the Man in Waiting

Crooked Saint turns up the charm with this new single “Man in Waiting,” the second to come from his Sweating Bullets EP.

The Melbourne troubadour has created a gorgeous folk rock tune driven by his jangly banjo and warm harmonica. The song is about having too much fun, and the inevitable repercussions of living with such wild abandon. It was never intended to be a single, but it’s had such positive feedback that Crooked Saint couldn’t resist giving it a digital release.

After relocating to Sydney and Los Angeles for months at a time last year, Crooked Saint has turned his attentions back to his home state. He’s currently playing shows in his native Victoria, along with a very special Live in Your Lounge gig. Want him to play in your lounge? Then just head to ToneDeaf to enter!

15 March 2012 – Baha Tapas & Taco, Rye
16 March 2012 – The Torquay Hotel, Torquay
17 March 2012 – The Espy Basement, St Kilda
24 March 2012 – Live In Your Lounge

Crooked Saint Gets Set for Summer with Sweating Bullets

Just six months after the release of his debut EP Every Angry Inch, Crooked Saint is preparing to unleash his follow-up, Sweating Bullets, on November 4. You can’t say this singer-songwriter isn’t working hard!

I always appreciate a tune with a steel guitar, so the title track is predictable right up my alley. This alt-country song has got a tangible summer vibe to it; I can almost feel that oppressive Australian humidity as I listen to the song unfolding.

To celebrate the release Crooked Saint will play shows down the east coast, culminating in a big final performance at the V8 Supercars final in Sydney. Here are all the places you can see this talented singer-songwriter performing, both in acoustic and full-band modes.

21October 2011 – Revolver Upstairs, Melbourne (EP Launch)
4 November 2011 – The Beresford Hotel, Sydney (Solo Acoustic – with Dirty Little Rebels and The Delta Riggs)
9 November 2011 – The Study @ The Gaelic Hotel, Sydney (Solo Acoustic)
19 November 2011 – Beaches, Thirroul (Solo Acoustic – supporting Dragon)
30 November 2011 – Rock Lily @ The Star, Sydney (solo acoustic)
3 December 2011 – The V8 Supercars @ ANZ Stadium, Sydney (with Noiseworks, John Farnham, and James Reyne)

Tim Wheatley is Crooked Saint

Melbourne muso Tim Wheatley has just released his debut EP Every Angry Inch under the moniker Crooked Saint.

The former member of Rushcutter and The Sparrows has worked without a band for the first time on this release. After hearing “The Big Easy,” it doesn’t sound like he’s missing them. This is such a lush alt-country number, brooding and dark but with a gorgeous melodic core.

Tim’s not working entirely alone though. The EP sees him reuniting with his Sparrows bandmate Michael Badger. Together the pair set about rerecording Tim’s demos and making them the rich tunes we hear on the disc.

You can hear “The Big Easy” above, and further EP tracks at the Crooked Saint MySpace page. Crooked Saint will travel around the country soon to promote Every Angry Inch, so if you like what you hear make sure you get out and support him!
