Crowded House Bring “Intriguer” Tour to Oz

Aussie music legends Crowded House will circle the country this November in support of their latest studio album Intriguer.

Just quietly, it’s about time. Critics have been heaping praise on the lads after shows in the United Kingdom, Europe, and United States. Perhaps they were just perfecting things before they hit home soil?

At any rate, Crowded House are promising a two hour show featuring plenty of old favourites alongside new tracks. It sounds like it’ll be a whole lot of fun. Tickets for the following shows go on sale through Ticketek on August 10.

Crowded House Score Number One Aussie Album

Crowded House have zoomed into the ARIA charts with their new album Intriguer debuting at number one. The band are the lone local act in the top 10, so I’m glad to see them out in front.

The Aussie musos are just as sparse in the singles charts, but local act Yolanda Be Cool & DCup are doing great things with their hit “We No Speak Americano” sitting at number four.

Crowded House Sign with Universal

Crowded House have a new home, with the band leaving long-time record company EMI for Universal Music. The first release under the new deal will be the album Intriguer, which should hit stores in the middle of the year.

Lead singer Neil Finn is apparently delighted with the move, commenting “I look forward to a long and productive relationship with Universal Music, who are obviously the music company setting the benchmark now. We’re delighted to be in the company of music-loving people who believe in us and are eager to spread the word.”

Local fans may get a sneak peek at some of the band’s new material when they play a couple of Australian and New Zealand dates in the next few weeks ahead of their European tour. The band will then head to the United States. Here are all those dates for my readers abroad!

Crowded House Headline Homebake

We might all be freezing our extremities off, but summer can’t be too far away. How do I know? Well, those summer festival announcements are filtering in.

Today the bill for Homebake was announced. That’s always particularly exciting because it’s a celebration of homegrown talents. And who needs to import bands when you can assemble a lineup like this?

We’ve got Crowded House as headliners. This is a massive deal considering they haven’t played here since those sold out shows last November. If you missed the lads then, here’s your chance.

They’ll be supported by a couple more Aussie rock heavyweights looking for comebacks: You Am I and The Vines. Add a little dance music courtesy of Sneaky Sound System, Cut Copy, and PNAU, a splash of country with Kasey Chambers and Shane Nicholson, and a dash of pop with Gabriella Cilmi and it’s all sounding pretty impressive.

The 12th annual Homebake concert will hit The Domain on December 6. It always always sells out, so you’ll want to grab yours when they go on sale from Ticketek on August 18.

“Time On Earth” – Crowded House

The release of Crowded House’s latest album was always going to create a buzz. Time On Earth is their first since the band split in 1996, and their first without their late drummer Paul Hester. However, the album itself is a rather subdued affair, removed from the hype its release brings with it.

All the classic Crowded House elements are here. The melodies are flawless and the arrangements superb. The upbeat “She Called Up” and cruisy first single “Don’t Stop Now” are highlights.

Yet, as the album progresses it starts to fade further and further into the background. “People are Like Suns,” “Walked Her Way Down” and “English Trees” are pleasant and unobtrusive, but far from groundbreaking.

For that reason, Time on Earth isn’t an altogether triumphant return for one of Australia’s most loved bands. However, there’s certainly enough here for us to be glad that Crowded House is back.

New Shows for Crowded House, Powderfinger, and Silverchair

It’s hardly surprising, but punters have snapped up tickets for the upcoming Crowded House and Powderfinger/Silverchair concerts.

It took just one hour for Crowded House to sell out Melbourne’s Rod Laver Arena on Friday. The venue seats 14,000, which means an amazing four tickets were sold every second.

They also did a roaring trade in New South Wales and Western Australia. A new Melbourne show is currently on sale, while additional Sydney, and Perth shows will go on sale tomorrow. EMI Music claims these will be the last shows announced, so fans had better get in quickly.

Fans also bought up big when Silverchair and Powderfinger tickets were on sale on Monday morning. Within 30 minutes, all tickets to the bands’ shows in Melbourne, Brisbane, Sydney, Adelaide, and Wollongong were gone.

Crowded House Announces World Tour

They may have said farewell to the world in 1996 and lost drummer Paul Hester in 2005, but Crowded House are back with a vengeance.

With new drummer Matt Sherrod, Neil Finn, Nick Seymour and Mick Hart have released Time on Earth, their first studio album since 1993’s Together Alone.

To celebrate the release, they’ll kick off a world tour with a very special performance at Sydney’s Live Earth gig on July 7. Then it’s off to North America and Europe before the band returns home in November.

The Australian leg of Crowded House’s world tour kicks off in Sydney on November 5. Tickets for these shows are available tomorrow from the usual outlets.

See the Crowded House website for all their tour details.
