Cut Copy Complete Third Album in Melbourne

Cut Copy are teasing us with news that they’ve just completed album number three, but we’ll need to wait until next year to hear it.

Cut Copy announced the news on their MySpace page commenting “as we imagine what hell freezing over feels like and winter descends on our makeshift warehouse studio on the outskirts of Melbourne, we’re pleased to announce that the recording for Cut//Copy album three is now complete! We’ll be mixing it with Ben Allen as soon as we finish the shows below.”

The Melbourne act will release the yet-to-be-named disc in January 2011. Those aforementioned shows will see Cut Copy play in Asia, Europe, and the United States before heading home for Parklife. Here are all the dates!

The Presets Top Aussie Charts

It’s another week, and we find another Aussie outfit sitting at the top of the ARIA charts. It’s so great to see Aussie music fans embracing our local artists!

Electro darlings The Presets have debuted at number one with their second album Apocalypso. The Sydney outfit has managed to keep fellow Sydneysiders Cog from the top spot. Their newie, Sharing Space, has debuted at number two.

Cut Copy are still enjoying chart success with In Ghost Colours. It’s climbed one position this week to sit at number nine.

Flo Rida has knocked Gabriella Climi off the top spot, but she hasn’t sunk too “Low.” “Sweet About Me” is currently at number two on the singles charts.

Aussies Line Up For Coachella

Coachella is one of the biggest music festivals in America, and this year five Aussie artists are gracing the bill.

Melbourne acts Architecture in Helsinki, Midnight Juggernauts, and Cut Copy will join Adelaide’s Sia and the mighty John Butler Trio. They’ll share the bill with major international artists including Prince, Jack Johnson, Pink Floyd’s Roger Waters, and Portishead. Should be some show!

Coachella plays at the Empire Polo Field in Indio, California from April 25 to 27.

Gabriella Cilmi Tops Singles Charts

It seems Australia’s sweet on Gabriella Cilmi. The teen sensation has topped the ARIA charts this week with her catchy tune “Sweet About Me,” knocking Flo Rida’s “Low” from the number one possie.

The bluesy pop number, which the talented 16-year-old co-wrote, is the debut single from her soon to be released first album Lessons to be Learned. If “Sweet About Me” is any indication, this album’s going to be massive.

Faker’s “This Heart Attack” has had another lease of life, jumping from number 18 back into the top 10. It’s sitting pretty at number 9.

Canadian crooner k.d. lang’s earned her first number one for Watershed. What I’ve heard of this album is breathtaking, so it’s really well deserved.

Cut Copy are the only Australian band to make an appearance in the top ten. Their former chart topper In Ghost Colours is hanging onto the tenth position.

Here’s all this week’s chart action.
