Hey Geronimo Tour Dan Kelly Tribute

Hey Geronimo really, really love Dan Kelly. They even skirted dangerously close to stalking with the release of their latest single “The Dan Kelly Song”! The quirky song’s currently available as a free download from Bandcamp and iTunes.

“The track was inspired by a dream I had in which Dave McCormack and Dan Kelly were co-writing songs for Hey Geronimo,” explains the band’s vocalist Pete Kilroy. “I woke up, and realising how cool that would be, figured we should just try and write a song in that style anyway. We’re all huge fans and it was either this or get tatts.”

Dan might not become Hey Geronimo’s songwriter any time soon, but he did meet the band and give the song his seal of approval. Buoyed by the experience, Hey Geronimo will take the song on the road this June with musical pals Strange Talk.

Dan Kelly Plays The Tote for Christmas

Dan Kelly’s ringing in the festive season with a special Christmas show at Melbourne’s Tote Hotel on December 23.

Dan will play with his Dream Band in their first show since Boogie Festival a few months ago. They’ll be ably supported on the night by the sublime harmonies of Gostelradio, instrumental surf band The Bluebottles, and eclectic dance act Honky Kong DJs.

This sounds like a much better way to celebrate the season than another lunch with your boring rellies. Tickets are available now from The Tote, and at the door on the night if they last that long!

New Song Obsession: “Gap Year Blues” by Dan Kelly

Dan Kelly has utterly charmed me with his latest song, “Gap Year Blues.”

Perhaps it’s because I was separated from my now husband for a few years before he moved from America to be with me here in Oz, but this sweet folk ballad of long distance love really struck a chord.

The song is paired with a deliciously organic music video from Melbourne filmmaker Johann Rashid.

“Gap Year Blues” comes from Dan’s ARIA nominated album Dan Kelly’s Dream. Do you love it as much as I do?

Dan Kelly’s Trippy New “Dream” Music Video

I love a music video that’s just as creative as the song it supports. Who wants to watch just another live performance spliced together with backstage footage after all? I’d much rather check out something like this trippy video for Dan Kelly’s new song called “Dream.”

With a name like that, you know that the film clip has to be pretty far out. SPOD saw Dan’s cruisy beatnik-style stream-of-conscious song realised in technicolour, after a painstaking two months editing. I’m glad he went to the effort; this is pretty awesome.

New Song Obsession: “Hold On, I’m Coming On” by Dan Kelly

Gee those Kellys are a talented lot. Dan Kelly, nephew of Paul, has stepped away from his Alpha Males band mates to record his new album Dream. The solo disc features the track “Hold On, I’m Coming On” which is a great slice of cruisy summery pop-rock. This is the kind of tune that lodges itself in your brain, but you don’t really mind because it’s so much fun. The film clip is pretty cool too, with its retro Super 8 camera work. Check it out! And if you like what you hear, make sure you see Dan doing his thing live at the following shows.
