Darcy Lane Celebrates Single Status With “2022 Without You”

For many of us, 2022 has been a year of celebration. With lockdowns seemingly behind us, the world opening up, and the live music scene getting back to some kind of normal, we’ve all had some highlights. For Eora/Sydney Darcy Lane, her single status has been reason alone to embrace this year. “2022 Without You” is an upbeat ode to saying goodbye to relationships that don’t serve you and embracing life unencumbered.

“‘2022 Without You’ is ultimately a celebration of being single in 2022. I started writing it in January and have been adding to it throughout the year,” Darcy explained. “Initially inspired by the aftermath of a breakup, this song is about embracing the changes that life throws at you, moving on, and caring less. In a world where we receive constant reminders of our ex’s existence, it can be hard to ignore what they are doing and who they are doing it with. However, this song is a reminder to me, and hopefully some other people, that it actually does not matter what they are doing as long as you are living your best life.”

As we start gearing up to bid 2022 farewell, this fun track is a great reminder of the year that was. Hopefully we’ll hear a lot more from Darcy Lane as we kick off 2023.

“Heartquakes” – Darcy Lane

When I heard Darcy Lane’s singles “Spines” and “Bored”, I couldn’t wait to hear more. Today my patience is rewarded with the release of Darcy’s incredible debut EP, Heartquakes.

If you’re already familiar with Darcy’s music, this EP is every bit as angsty, relatable, and catchy as you’d hope for. If you’re yet to discover her songs, this four-track release is a fantastic introduction. “Bad Together” kicks things off, an irresistible indie-pop track with dark lyrics of dysfunctional love that counterbalance the boppy beat. Lyrics like “Maybe love’s supposed to feel like you’re choking” are so powerful. “Bored” has lost none of its potency with time. Listening to it in the context of this EP reminds me just how incredible it is. “Harmless” is revealing and raw, with Darcy unafraid to share her deepest self. The electro beats give it a fun, fresh feel, but again its those lyrics that make the deepest impression. “Spines” rounds out the EP, bringing our journey through Darcy’s heart and mind over all too quickly.

Selfishly, I wish Heartquakes for longer. But by delivering just four tracks, Darcy keeps us wanting more. Like those three-minute pop songs or a delicious petit four, Darcy ensures what she presents here is incredibly strong. It’s short and bittersweet, but remember that you can always press play again.

Darcy Lane Floors Me With New Single “Bored”

Eora/Sydney indie pop artist Darcy Lane has totally won me over with her latest single “Bored”. It’s got a fresh sound, but it’s the raw lyrics that really got me. Make sure you tap into them, because they are so powerful.

“This song is really about all the feelings that come with rejection,” Darcy explained. “I feel like we live in a world where there is always the next best thing and that can be really challenging at times. It’s easy to be tempted by things that are shiny and new but that doesn’t always mean it is better. ‘Bored’ was intended to ultimately call out someone that ran away just in case there was someone better out there. I often wonder if they have found it yet.”

“Bored” comes from Darcy’s debut EP Heartquakes, which will drop on September 2. Get a sneaky early listen to some of its songs when she launches the single at Beach Road Hotel in Eora/Bondi on August 26.

Darcy Lane Is Back With “Spines”

Taking her cues from Billie Eilish and Lorde, Darcy Lane has just dropped her cool new single “Spines.” I love the contrast between the dark, brooding lyrics and the emotional release of the chorus. “Spines” sounds so current, but its emotional core is absolutely timeless.

“‘Spines’ is about falling for a friend but neither of you have enough backbone to make the first move,” Darcy admitted.

This is Darcy’s first release since her debut single “Relentless Forces” dropped in 2020. It’s certainly worth the wait.
