According to the dictionary, escapism is “the tendency to seek distraction and relief from unpleasant realities, especially by seeking entertainment or engaging in fantasy.” What the dictionary neglects to mention is that it’s the also the name of the latest single from Castlecomer, which is being bundled with their previous release “Fire Alarm” for a double A-side available from December 19.
Apparently the track was written while lead singer Bede was working in a boarding house for men with schizophrenia. In it, he reflects on the way we all look for ways to escape the everyday we’re living in. The track has such a great energy; of this doesn’t get you going on your Tuesday morning nothing will.

Wolf & Cub Tour Double A-Side Single
Indie darlings Wolf & Cub are back with a brand new double A-side single, which features the songs “See The Light” and “All Through the Night.”
The tracks showcase two different sides of this fledgling Australian outfit. “All Through the Night” is my favorite with is driving bass beat, ethereal falsetto vocals, and psychedelic guitars. In contrast “See The Light” is edgier with a bluesy bass line and dark hooks.
Wolf & Cub will take their sweet time travelling around the country and playing a few single launch shows this month and the next to support the release. See this exciting act at the following shows.
9 March 2012 – Arcade Lane, Adelaide
24 March 2012 – The Espy, Melbourne
5 April 2012 – GoodGod, Sydney
Saskwatch Release Soulful New Single
Humpdays are always hard to handle, but they’re made a little easier with some sweet soul music. Saskwatch deliver just that with their new double A-side 7-incher “Don’t Wanna Try/Pushin’ Me Away.”
Saskwatch knows that not everyone has the old technology to play a 7-inch album, so you can listen to it digitally here. I love the way the single captures the duality of the band. “Don’t Wanna Try” is sweet and tender, while “Pushin’ Me Away” shows real spunk.
Saskwatch will celebrate the single’s release with two big shows at Fitzroy’s Workers Club on November 24 and 25. Presale tickets are just $10 and come with a complimentary CD, so make sure you get in early to score some free soul music!
