Ruel Support Dylan Joel Embraces Positivity With “Hollering Love”

Melbourne singer-songwriter-rapper Dylan Joel is wowing crowds with his sets supporting Ruel all around the country. Listening to his banging new single “Hollering Love,” it’s not hard to see why. The track reminds me of what Ed Sheeran and Justin Timberlake might release if they ever collaborated. It’s got such a great groove and positive vibe about it, you can’t help but like it.

“I’ve been told by people in the music industry, that it’s not cool to talk about positive things. That it’s cooler to act like you don’t care and instead, talk about the dark shit in our lives,” he admitted. “I feel sorry for the people who feel that way. I believe that in a world full of so much hate, loving is the biggest act of rebellion. This song is inspired by the incredibly talented, kind, loving and fly AF friends that I have, making this movement of love real.”

If you’ve got tickets to one of Ruel’s remaining shows, make sure you arrive early enough to catch Dylan’s set. Here are all the remaining gigs.

Love Ed Sheeran? Listen to Our Own Dylan Joel

The rest of Australia might be gripped by Ed Sheeran mania, but I’m far more interested in the singer-songwriters coming out of this country. If you love Ed, “Run to the River,” the new single from Melbourne’s Dylan Joel will be right up your alley.

“We shot the video in a desert one hour outside of San Diego, California in a town called Ocotillo,” Dylan explained. “The only things in the town of Ocotillo were a gas station, a saloon and a man who turns recycled junk in to UFOs … as you do. The story of the song was inspired by the idea of flipping a blues song. Hence the theme of the ‘river’ being something holy or life giving and the reference of a devil whispering. The theme came from some of the typical struggles we face as a society and the importance of questioning what things help us escape them.”

“Run to the River” is Dylan’s first new release since he dropped Authentic Lemonade, which was one of Triple J’s feature albums of the week, in 2015. He seems to have matured a lot as an artist since then, perhaps because he’s taken time to work on his craft with songwriting and recording sessions here and in the United States. If “Run to the River” is any indication, the new music will be worth a listen.

Dylan Joel Announces First Solo Tour

If you’re a hip hop fan you might have caught Dylan Joel supporting Seth Sentry on his recent Aussie tour. You might think after that playing more than 40 shows with Seth he’d be tired of life on the road, but he’s ready to get back out there for his first solo tour of the country.

Dylan’s set to tour this fair land in support of his debut album Authentic Lemonade, which is in stores now. It features the current single “Blank,” which has a great soulful sound which has really won me over. That’s Dylan singing too, proving he can do a lot more than laying down rhymes.
