Eilish Gilligan Releases Powerful “Angel Face” Since Ahead of Album Launch

Naarm/Melbourne singer-songwriter Eilish Gilligan is giving us an early taste of her long-awaited debut album with the release of her latest single “Angel Face.” It sounds so sweet, but its lyrics which come as a warning to the men who abuse their power in the music industry put a real sting in its tail.

“I wrote ‘Angel Face’ to process some of the anger, hurt and betrayal I was feeling about something that happened in my music career at the time. It sounds funny to say I felt those things about an event that was purely professional, but such are the relationships you develop in the music industry,” Eilish recalled. “I felt so powerless. I felt completely voiceless. I felt like I couldn’t talk to anyone about what had happened without sounding hysterical or insane. A sense of righteousness made me feel even angrier and watching the industry celebrate people I knew weren’t really all that great on the inside was difficult. I knew these feelings were something other women in my position would be able to relate to. I held onto the relief that writing ‘Angel Face’ brought me for so long and I really hope it can bring that catharsis to others now.”

Eilish’s debut album Final Girl is released on February 16.

Eilish Gilligan Releases Sweet New Single, “I Just Want to Look at You”

Eilish Gilligan captures a moment of romance in her sweet new synth-pop single, “I Just Want to Look At You.”

“I’ve always thought that writing a song is like putting a beautiful frame around what could be considered an otherwise flippant or casual moment in time,” explained Eilish of the song’s inspiration. “‘I Just Want To Look At You’ started as a throwaway phrase that someone said to me once. I couldn’t get it out of my head for days afterwards. If you think about it, it’s actually such a nice thing to have someone say to you.”

Eilish has lined up a couple of gigs for music lovers in her hometown of Melbourne next month. Catch her at the following venues.

16 March 2020 – Estonian House, Brunswick (supporting Elizabeth)
21 March 2020 – Longplay, North Fitzroy (acoustic)

Eilish GIlligan Wins Josh Pyke Partnership

Melbourne singer, songwriter, and producer Eilish Gilligan has taken out this year’s Josh Pyke Partnership. A collaboration between Josh Pyke and APRA AMCOS, the partnership provides funding and mentorship for one unsigned musical act each year.

I must admit, Eilish wasn’t on my radar until this morning. The first thing I did after hearing the news was check her out on Spotify. Take a listen to her latest single “Someone Else” and you’ll soon understand why she took out the top prize. Her voice is absolutely stunning and she has such a great artistic sensibility. This track is an absolute banger, and there’s plenty more where it came from.

“I am so, so humbled, grateful and excited to be the winner of the 2019 JP Partnership,” Eilish said. “This vote of confidence from Josh Pyke, APRA AMCOS, Wonderlick and Select means a lot to me as an artist, and it also means that I will be able to continue to work towards my musical, artistic and professional goals for 2019, now with the extra guidance of these industry veterans.”

“Eilish Gilligan is an artist that has achieved a hell of a lot under her own steam, but it’s the potential in Eilish that’s truly exciting,” added Josh. “I’m a huge fan of multi-faceted artists, and in 2019, having more than one string to your bow is paramount to having longevity in the creative arts. Eilish is a songwriter but also a gifted technical producer, collaborative songwriter, as well as being the star of her own show. This is what makes for a long and fruitful career. Being not just a “musician,” but a “creative”.
