ELEEA Releases Emotional Single “Stings”

If you’re trying to move on from a breakup, consider waiting to hear ELEEA’s new track “Stings.” This bittersweet track has got me right in the feels. It’s drenched in nostalgia, with powerful lyrics that might just have you thinking about the one that got away.

“My writing is always very raw, but ‘Stings’ feels particularly autobiographical,” ELEEA admitted. “It captures those very confusing moments when you are overjoyed that someone you’ve loved is happy again in their next relationship, while simultaneously agonising over how their new partner has fit straight into your old life… that can really sting.”

“The verses are so simple and capture such ordinary moments, but I feel like they paint a really precise picture. It’s not a typically angry or sad breakup song, because that wouldn’t have been true to my situation. But the whole song is wrapped in sentimentality, which can be a really chaotic thing to feel.”

ELEEA wrote the song in 2019, but it’s the sort of material that will never date. Take a listen, but keep those tissues handy just in case.

ELEEA’s “Red Wine” Offers a Taste of Spain

Like so many Aussies, I’m craving travel at the moment. With gloomy winter weather setting in, I find myself longing to leave all this behind for somewhere warm and wonderful. It’s off the table while the borders remain shut, but we can take the journey in our minds with “Red Wine,” the latest single from ELEEA.

Lifted from ELEEA’s forthcoming album The Travel Collection, the Latin-inspired beats and fingerpicked guitar should transport you to Spain. While it conjures up the Mediterranean, it was actually inspired by a classic cinematic romance.

“Red Wine was initially inspired by one of my guilty pleasures, The Notebook. That movie really sold the narrative that sees young, complicated love win,” said ELEEA. “But in my experience, when reality kicked in, so did imposter syndrome and the realisation that we simply hadn’t grown into the right people at the right time. Even the romantic fantasies about all of the places we could go together weren’t enough to make it work.”

ELEEA loved her own travels in Spain, even if she didn’t have someone special by her side.

“When I backpacked through Spain, it felt like a dream. Seeing the sunset at San Sebastian beach, passionate flamenco performances in Madrid or Gaudi’s incredible creations, it brought up all those old fantasies. But in the end, I lived them out solo, which was much more satisfying.”

If you’re mentally planning your next getaway too, “Red Wine” is the ideal soundtrack.

ELEEA’s New Single “Space” is Spooky Good

Isn’t it funny the way artists can write songs in a different time and place, but on their release, the lyrics take on a new meaning? Such is the case with “Space,” the fantastic new single from ELEEA. She was inspired to write this beautiful ballad looking up at the night sky in outback NSW, having just driven from the Gold Coast to Broken Hill. Gazing at the stars gave her a moment of peace after a horror trip, where she busted two tyres and had to go door-knocking with her chihuahua to find a phone and call help. A journey that should have taken a little over an hour actually took 32!

“Space” captures a moment in time, but one that we can’t imagine having right now. Crossing state lines for travel has been out of our grasp for months now. We’d kill for a holiday, even one that starts off on the wrong foot. Yet this song is eerily relatable. That’s because it’s anchored by the line “At least we’ve got something in common, even if it tears us apart.” And isn’t that the truth. It’s easy to feel disconnected right now, with whole cities locked down, others like myself in self-imposed iso because the world doesn’t feel safe, conspiracy theorists and anti-maskers causing further divides. But at the end of the day, we’re all human, we’re all not quite ourselves, we’re all struggling. “At least we’ve got something in common, even if it tears us apart.”

“The first time I played Space for an audience was during a live-stream concert, and I had tears in my eyes,” she admitted. “The chorus has taken on a whole new meaning now, with everyone globally united, experiencing this pandemic together, yet having to stay completely distanced from each other.”

“Space” is the latest song from ELEEA’s forthcoming album, The Travel Collection.
