Anna Cordell Launches These Walls in Sydney Tomorrow Night!

For most of us in Australia, mid-week nights are spent vegging out in front of reality TV. Wouldn’t it be wonderful to actually get out and do something more memorable?

Sydneysiders, consider this a reminder that Anna Cordell is launching her EP These Walls at The Vanguard tomorrow night with support from William Crighton and Sarah Belkner. Tickets are available from The Vanguard website. This promises to be a night of live music that’s much more memorable than watching Sam Frost break another man’s heart.

Sleepy Dreams Launch Local Football

Melburnians, your Saturday night plans are sorted. Local indie-folk quartet Sleepy Dreamers will be officially launching their sophomore EP Local Football at The Penny Black in Brunswick on November 29, and they’d love to see you there.

The five-track recording features the stellar singles “Bike Song” and “Hunk.” Empty wallets are no excuse, as entry is free. The music kicks off at 9:30, so be there or be square!

Maxi Gives EP Sneak Peek

After impressing with her debut single “In a Little While,” Melbourne songbird Maxi is preparing to inundate us with some new tunes. On September 28 she’ll release her self-titled debut EP and a brand new single “From the Start.”

You don’t have to wait that long to hear the single though. Maxi’s allowed me to give you all the first listen of the new track, which is every bit as powerful as the last. I love her old style blend of funk and soul, her powerful vocals, and those big brassy chords.

Hopefully this will get you all warmed up for the EP, which was the result of a summer spent locked away with fledgling producer and muso Joel Witenberg. They might have missed the sunshine, but there’s a real warmth to the songs I’ve heard that has me primed for more.

If you like what you hear make sure you grab Maxi and “From the Start” when they drop on September 28. Maxi will also launch the EP for her home town fans at The Workers Club on October 18.

Mrs Bishop Launch Dreamy Debut

England born Sweden raised brothers Mrs Bishop are now fully fledged Aussies preparing to unleash their first EP.

As you listen to their first single “Broken Wing” it’s not hard to believe these lads were once royal choristers at Windsor Castle. They’ve got such heavenly voices which come together in exquisite harmonies. The track’s very dreamlike, with a classical base and pop sensibilities.

If you’re digging how different these boys are, make sure you head out to show your support at the EP launch at Sydney’s GoodGod Small Club on June 9.

Lester the Fierce Impresses with “Holland”

Lester The Fierce isn’t quite as scary as her name suggests, but there’s still something dramatic and dangerous about this Melbourne chanteuse. I’m so taken with her breathtaking single “Holland,” which comes from her debut EP The Summer Deluge. Get ready for some enchantingly ethereal vocals and a whole lot of feathers.

Lester The First will launch the EP tomorrow night in front of her home town fans at the Phoenix Public House. Make sure you turn up early for support slots from Clue To Kalo and Mouth Tooth.

Box Rockets Launch EP in Victoria & NSW

Melbourne band Box Rockets are about to release No Control, the follow-up to their acclaimed 2009 EP Throwing Stones. To celebrate the October release the band will play a handful of launch shows next month.

Box Rockets plan to play a couple of shows for their hometown audience, and two more for the music-loving folks in Sydney. The band will be selling a limited edition copy of the EP at the shows which features innovative origami-inspired packaging. That sounds a whole lot more exciting than what you’ll get on iTunes!

You can grab the far superior version of the No Control EP at Box Rockets’ following shows.

7 October 2011 – Mum @ World Bar, Sydney
8 October 2011 – Beresford Upstairs, Sydney
21 October 2011 – The Prince Bandroom, Melbourne (with Phrase)
27 October 2011 – The Northcote Social Club, Melbourne

Emperors Ready to Unleash “Sam”

After generating some major buzz through winning the Triple J Unearthed competition, a WAMI, and playing the Perth Big Day Out, Emperors figured it was about time to release something. That something comes in the form of Sam, an EP set to drop on February 12.

The band will launch Sam with a big show at Amplifier Bar on February 19. Sons of Rico, Stereoflower, and BudWeezer will support, so make sure you show up early.

If you want another fix, Emperors will also play the unfortunately named Crab Fest at Mandurah Foreshore on March 12. It might sound like the sort of place where you could catch a nasty disease, but with Abbe May, Novocaines, The Scotch of Saint James, and Young Revelry also on the bill it’ll be worth checking out.
