King Canyon Release Old School Soul Single “Long Distance”

King Canyon are making me all nostalgic with their latest soul single, “Long Distance.” This retro track about yearning for a love that’s far away is sure to resonate with many during the pandemic. Lead singer Jimmy Cupples’ voice is full of yearning and tenderness. I love the way it matches with those electric guitar notes from James Ryan, who also produced and mixed the track.

“Long Distance” is my favourite song from the current single, but if you love its laidback vibes you might also appreciate the band’s cover of Stevie Wright’s classic, “Evie (Part 1).” This bluesy acoustic cover gives a brand new complexion to the timeless Aussie rock anthem.

King Canyon will play their first gig since Victoria’s lockdown at Arcobar on the 30th of November. If you can’t make it, make sure you follow the band’s Facebook page for livestreams every Saturday at 5 pm.

EVIE Releases Cool Throwback Tune, “For You I Would”

If you crossed Mazzy Star with Michelle Branch, you might get someone like Brisbane songstress EVIE. Her latest single “For You I Would” is giving me laidback ‘90s vibes, and I am absolutely loving the nostalgia.

EVIE penned the track in the wake of a breakup, when emotions are still raw but there’s also a sense of optimism towards the future. “The song was written with a heavy heart but shows the optimism found in these hard decisions and the confidence that is gained from moving forward,” EVIE explains.

Hometown fans can catch EVIE at The Milk Factory on October 24.

Last Dinosaurs Release First Single From Album 2

Last Dinosaurs are giving us a sneak peek at the material from their highly anticipated second album, but don’t mistake “Evie” for a Stevie Wright cover. Instead this is a slice of retro-inspired, synth-saturated pop designed to help you on your way towards the weekend.

“It was the first song I wrote after our first album, but the last song we finished for this album,” explained lead singer Sean Caskey. “So in a way it was the most natural, and at the same time it was so difficult to perfect. The song is about the idea of having that naive optimism for something desired but unattainable.”

Last Dinosaurs will celebrate the release of “Evie” and warm up for “Splendour” with intimate shows across the country later this month, kicking off with a hometown show. Tickets are available from the venues.
