Evil Eddie Celebrates Hip Hop’s “Golden Age”

Evil Eddie celebrates old school hip hop with his brand new single “Golden Age.” The track comes from the former Butterfingers frontman’s highly anticipated solo debut Welcome to Flavour Country, which should hit stores in mid-October.

The track isn’t for sensitive ears or workplaces, but it’s a great commentary on the modern hip hop songs that overuse auto-tune and rap about little of consequence. Its passion and direct to camera video is a nod to hip hop’s formative years. The song is available digitally or as a limited edition CD. Just 500 copies were made, so they’re sure to become collector’s items. If you want one you can buy it through Evil Eddie’s website.

Fans can help bring Welcome to Flavour Country to the masses by investing in a package through Pledge Music. For just $11 you can get a digital download of the album a week before it hits stores, but if you’re feeling a bit more flush you can enjoy even more perks.

Evil Eddie Says Evil!

Evil Eddie seems to have gotten even eviler with the video for his new single, “(Somebody Say) Evil.” The former Butterfingers frontman is seen here corrupting kiddies and performing alongside a giant chicken. You can say what you like about Eddie, but he’s certainly not boring!

“(Somebody Say) Evil” is the second single from his soon to be released debut album. At this point it’s tentatively called Welcome to Flavour Country, but with Eddie you know nothing’s ever certain!

If you love Evil Eddie’s brand of madness make sure you check him out at the following home state shows.

10 June 2011 – Exchange Hotel, Townsville
11 June 2011 – Currajah Hotel, Wangan
12 June 2011 – Blue Sky Brewery, Cairns
17 June 2011 – Step Inn, Fortitude Valley
18 June 2011 – Sol Bar, Maroochydore
2 July 2011 – River Sessions @ Mackay Showgrounds, Mackay

Evil Eddie Covers Geto Boys’ Protest Song

I was saddened this week to hear of the death of 21-year-old soldier Jamie Larcombe in Afghanistan. He’s the 23rd digger we’ve lost in the country since 2002, and it makes me wonder why we’re still there protecting a nation with which we have little real ties to.

Brisbane’s Evil Eddie seems just as frustrated as I do, because he’s just released a cover of the Geto Boys’ 1991 underground hit “Fuck A War.” I could have added those polite asterisks I saw in the press release, but we all know what the song’s called!

If your ears aren’t too delicate, you can own a copy of this foul-mouthed protest song for free. Just sign up to Evil’s mailing list by March 11 and he’ll send the MP3 straight to your inbox!

Such generosity isn’t very evil, is it?

Butterfingers’ Singer Evil Eddie’s Ode to Queensland

Former Butterfingers’ front man Evil Eddie is paying tribute to his home state with his new single “Queensland.” Butterfingers enthusiasts should love this solo effort, as has that same hip hop/punk core and “brilliantly uncouth” lyrics that made the iconic band so successful.

The “Queensland” single offers real value for music fans, with the inclusion of a radio edit and Bewilderbeats remix. It comes from the forthcoming debut album, tentatively titled Welcome to Flavour Country. We may not know exactly what it’ll be called yet, but we do know that Eddie plays almost all the instruments himself, bar drums, which is pretty impressive.

No doubt we’ll get to hear “Queensland” and some more new tracks when Evil Eddie takes to the stage at the upcoming Peats Ridge Festival on the Central Coast on December 29, and the Woodford Folk Festival on December 30 and 31. He’ll be backed by an all star band boasting members of Butterfingers, Laneous and the Family Yah, Bang Boss Kelly, The Disables, and Spitfireliar. I hear they might also pop up and play a few secret shows, so keep your eyes peeled and your ears to the ground music fans!
