Rock Out With Concrete Surfers’ “Shattered Thoughts”

I intended to take a few weeks off over the festive season, but you know what they say about the best laid plans. So it’s little wonder that “Shattered Thoughts,” the latest track from Brisbane’s Concrete Surfers is resonating with me. It’s got the right amount of grit and angst, with a surf-rock bent that’s encouraging me to knock off early and hit the beach.

“The concept of the video appeared when we were showing our friends tech deck videos to another friend and they struck the idea that we should do a film clip based off that, which we thought was really neat!” explained the band’s guitarist and vocalist, Jovi Brook. “We just got some cardboard boxes some paint and dollhouse furniture from Kmart and made little sets which was actually really fun and cool seeing it all come together.”

Concrete Surfers were scheduled to play Falls, but with its cancellation fans will just have to wait a little longer to see them live. As they were planning a summer tour before they got the call from festival organisers, hopefully some more shows will be announced soon.

Falls Festival Raises Funds for Tassie Bushfire Relief

As fire-ravaged Tasmania does its best to recover, the folks from the Falls Music & Arts Festival are doing their bit with a fundraising drive.

Thankfully the Falls farm at Marion Bay survived the blazes, but that doesn’t mean the Falls crew are untouched by the tragedy. They’re doing their part by turning the farm into a temporary refuge for homeless locals and community workers.

They’re also calling on all fans to help Tasmania rebuild by donating what they can to the Red Cross. The Falls Festival team has done the same by generously giving $10, 000 to the charity. You can also contribute to the Falls Festival’s fundraising efforts by clicking this secure link.

Keep an eye on the Fall Festival website to read details of more fundraising initiatives in the coming weeks.

New Names Added to Falls Line-Up

The line-up for this year’s Falls Music & Arts Festival is looking even more irresistible with the latest round of announcements.

Amongst the latest international additions are old-school soul man Aloe Blacc, unhinged American electro-dance wiz Dan Deacon, quirky Brits The Kooks, French popsters Nouvelle Vague, and Young MC. Yes that Young MC, of “Bust a Move” fame. I’m not sure he’ll be able to entertain the crowds much beyond that 90s gem, but I’m loving the novelty factor.

The shows will also mark the homecoming of Aussie songbird Missy Higgins. She’ll play alongside other recently announced local talent including Emma Louise, Pnau, and the hilarious Josh Thomas.

Add in all the other already announced names, including Arctic Monkeys, Fleet Foxes, Josh Pyke, The Jezabels, and Arj Barker and you’ve got an incredible way to ring in the New Year.

They’ll all play the all ages event in Marion Bay, Tasmania from December 29 to 31 and the adults only version in Lorne, Victoria from December 28 to 31. To secure your possie, make sure you add your name to the ticket ballot on the Falls Festival website before August 5. The majority of tickets will be distributed amongst these Falls die-hards before the general sale on August 17.

Crystal Castles, Josh Pyke Join Falls Festival Bill

This year’s Falls Festival is shaping up to be something pretty special, with Crystal Castles, J Mascis, Josh Pyke, and Papa vs Pretty, DJ Yoda, and Unknown Mortal Orchestra all recent additions to the bill.

The latest group of local and international acts joins already announced headliners Arctic Monkeys, Fleet Foes, The Jezabels, Easy Star All Stars, and Arj Barker. They’ll all play the all ages event in Marion Bay, Tasmania from December 29 to 31 and the adults only version in Lorne, Victoria from December 28 to 31. What a way to ring in the New Year, right?

If the announced acts excite you, make sure you add your name to the ticket ballot on the Falls Festival website before August 5. The majority of tickets will be distributed amongst these Falls enthusiasts before the general sale on August 17.

Moby and Yeah Yeah Yeahs for Falls

What a line-up the folks from the Falls Festival have put together this year!

Music lovers in Tasmania’s Marion Bay and Lorne in Victoria will be entertained by international superstars Moby and Yeah Yeah Yeahs and local heroes Sarah Blasko, Lisa Mitchell, Hiltop Hoods, Temper Trap, Little Birdy, Xavier Rudd, and heaps more.

The Falls Festival is a great way to ring in the New Year, but you’ll have to be lucky to score tickets. They’re available only via a special ballot on the website. The ballot closes on Monday August 24. Successful entrants will be notified on September 1.

Kings of Leon Headline Falls Festival

Organisers of The Falls Festival have announced a killer line-up for their New Year’s Eve festivities, headlined by U.S. rockers Kings of Leon. The band’s drummer, Nathan Followill, said he’s looking forward to playing the Victorian and Tasmanian shows.

“We hear the Falls Festival is amazing,” he told The Age. “We’ve only ever been out for the Big Day Out, and that’s like a rock ‘n’ roll summer camp.”

The Kings will join the Midnight Juggernauts, Groove Armada, Paul Kelly, Black Rebel Motorcycle Club, The Waifs and more at the outdoor event.
