FANGZ Drop Powerful Punk Single, “Fine Without You”

On a very Monday-feeling Monday, there’s nothing like some punk rock to reflect all that angst. Enter FANGZ with their latest single “Fine Without You.” It’s raucously raw with some insightful lyrics inspired by frontman Joshua Cottreau’s battle against his inner demons.

“‘Fine Without You’ is about overcoming addiction. The lyrics allude to a love song, but it’s really about falling down a hole and climbing back out to overcome it all,” he admitted. “In late 2022, I almost threw everything away that was good in my life. Fortunately, I had a great network of family and friends who supported me throughout the ordeal. I was very lucky to get the outcome I did, and it’s made me appreciate the things I take for granted every day. Sometimes you need to hit rock bottom, to become the best version of yourself.”

FANGZ have some big shows coming up. They’ll support American hard-rockers He Is Legend at Crowbar in Eora/Sydney on 19 May before officially launching “Fine Without You” at Tomcat in Meeanjin/Brisbane on 17 June. At the launch you can get a limited edition 7” split vinyl featuring the FANGZ song and “From His Eyes,” the latest release from Lunchtime, who are also on the bill.

Listen to FANGZ’s “Falling is Pretty Normal” Loud

If Hump Day is hitting you hard, press play and crank up the volume on “Falling is Pretty Normal.” I can’t promise that FANGZ’s latest single will take away any of the frustrations of your workday, but this aggressive and ultra-catchy track might just make you forget about them for a little while. It’s bold and ballsy with stellar vocals from frontman Joshua Cottreau.

“‘Falling Is Pretty Normal’ was written just after I lost someone close to me,” Joshua explained. “I wasn’t coping at all, and I found myself spiralling without even realising. I would have these vivid dreams in which the departed would be there and it’d feel so real. In that moment I’d be happy. Then my alarm would sound, and the reality would hit me like a tonne of bricks. It’s about learning to deal with loss and knowing that the person maybe gone but the lessons they taught you still live on as long as you remember.”

The song comes from a dark place, but the music video, which pays homage to blink-182’s iconic clip for “What’s My Age Again?”, is pure joy. Keep your eyes peeled for the cameos!

FANGZ Delivers Rocking New Single and Virtual Launch Party

My appetite for music swings wildly at the moment. I’m either listening to gentle folky tunes to stay calm or unleashing the beast with epic rock tunes. Today is a day where the music needs to be turned up to 11. It’s just the kind of day to crank our “Drifter,” the latest track from Sydney punk-rock act FANGZ.

If you don’t have the volume dial turned all the way up for this one, you’re missing the point. It’s aggressively cathartic, with a bold drums, chunky guitars, and take-no-prisoners vocals.

Like so many bands, FANGZ had to cancel a string of East Coast shows. These guys won’t let that stop them entertaining you though. They’ll live stream the set they intended to play at the “Drifter” single launch via the FANGZ YouTube channel at 1 p.m. this Friday, April 17. If you can’t tune in, the video will be available for 24 hours on YouTube.
