Cinnamon Sun Brings the Chill With “Fly”

Life’s been pretty stressful for many Aussies, but Brisbane alt/pop hip-hop act Cinnamon Sun is bringing the chill with their latest single “Fly.” Like a big sonic hug, which is the safest kind of hug right now, this laidback single hits all the right notes.

The band says “‘Fly’ is a gentle reminder that we need to lift each other up, be the change we want to see and spread a message of love for our fellow earth-dwellers.” Amen!

This is the third single from Cinnamon Sun. Their previous releases, “If You Call” and “Goosebumps” premiered on Triple J and clocked up more than 65,000 streams on Spotify. They were also featured in Beat Magazine, AU Review, Australian Music Scene, Forte, and StereoFox. No doubt “Fly” will bring the band continued success. While so much of the rest of the country is locked down, Cinnamon Sun is making the most of the latest eased restrictions in their part of the country. Birdz and Ngaiire Make Beautiful Music Together on “Fly”

Melbourne hip-hop act Birdz has teamed up with Sydney soul chanteuse Ngaiire for a gorgeous new single “Fly.” This is really uplifting stuff, with two of the country’s most exciting BIPOC voices, both with different styles, coming together to create something beautiful.

“As Indigenous people, we carry with us the oldest living cultures in the world,” Birdz said. “That’s something sacred that no one can ever take from us – it’s that energy that holds our heads up high no matter what the world throws at us.”

The song saw Birdz teaming up with his longtime producer and friend trials, but they knew they needed a great soul voice to really elevate the song.

“We had the hook idea in the stash for ages and I eventually came back to it to record the verses months later. Once we had a decent demo, trials and I knew we needed a soulful singer to really bring it home. I’ve always been a huge fan of Ngaiire’s and think that she’s hands down one of the best singer-songwriters in the country.”

“Fly” was one of the first tracks Birdz wrote for his new album project, which is scheduled for release later this year. If it’s all this good, it’s going to be pretty special.

Dex Releases Fly Tune

One of the greatest things about the Australian hip hop scene is that it remembers what the genre should be about. Most American rappers might care more about bling and bitches, but our local acts are penning poignant songs with real substance.

The latest of this new breed is Dex, a 16-year-old wunderkind from Melbourne. He loves Bliss & Eso and Hilltop Hoods, but he’s no copycat. With his new single “Fly” he showcases his gift for crafting heartfelt lyrics and delivering cutting rhymes. He’s not just good for 16; he’s just good.

“Fly” comes from Dex’s mixtape Something to Say, which drops on April 20. He’ll launch it with shows at Fitzroy’s Laundry Bar on April 10 and 11.
