Sophian Releases Fire New Single, “Georgia”

Blending a little reggae with indie rock sounds, Boorloo-Perth act Sophian has won me over with their latest single “Georgia.” I’ll be surprised if you don’t find yourself grooving along to this one. If you’re into acts like Ocean Alley and Coterie, you’re going to be all about this.

“We are going behind a very beachy vibe. We want to inspire and spread happiness with this song,” said the band’s frontman and namesake, Sophian Manik. “The song itself is about a sailor falling in love with a mermaid but finding it difficult to maintain the relationship given their differences. It’s also a metaphor for what relationships in real life sometimes can be like. Things can be tough, but you can always work on turning them into something positive. We love the ocean and the beach. So, it was only natural for us to explore a song which would incorporate the ocean and also campfire vibes of bringing people together.”

Sophian are launching the single at The Bird in Boorloo/Perth on May 5. Their last single launch sold out, so you might want to pounce on some tickets pronto.

Thomas Headon Making Waves With “Georgia”

Born in London but raised in Naarm/Melbourne, Thomas Headon is bringing a little sunshine to your Tuesday arvo. If you’ve lost your mojo, press play and turn his latest single “Georgia” up. I swear it’ll make you feel better about the world.

“We’ve actually been sitting on this song for over a year now,” he admitted. “I wrote it by myself with my little acoustic guitar in London, then finally produced it up into 100 different versions with my friend Stephen months later, finally landing on this one. It’s actually not even about someone called Georgia, it’s more pointed towards the US state … also which I have nothing to do with, but it’s a metaphor. Anyway, it’s my favourite song of mine to date. I hope people like it.”

Since moving back to the UK in 2020, Thomas has been doing big things. Like supporting Elton John big. He’s also just announced he’ll be part of the Are You Listening? Festival in Reading on 6 May 2023. Hopefully a return visit to Oz isn’t too far away.

Tinder Match Inspires Latest McDermott & North Single, “Georgia”

McDermott & North are making me swoon with their dreamy new single “Georgia.” Blending pop, indie, and roots influences, the track might just be the most romantic-sounding thing to come out of a Tinder match, even if the story that inspired it doesn’t have a happy ending!

“This song title actually came about because I had just broken up with my girlfriend and was on Tinder. When I matched with someone I’d write a song for them. I matched with a ‘Georgia’ who funnily enough went on to become a huge Instagram sensation. When I sent her the song she never responded. So if you’re out there, Georgia, I hope you enjoy it!” said one half of the duo, Paddy McDermott.

The Brisbane duo recently launched the single for hometown fans at The Brightside. Hopefully it’s not too long before we see them around the rest of the country.
