Glenn Richards Plays Victoria

Watching Augie March signer Glenn Richards doing his thing live is always something special. Performances have been rare since he released his solo album Glimjack last year, but he’s treating us to a few next month.

Glenn Richards will be joined by a stellar band featuring Dan Luscombe and Mike Noga of the Drones, You Am I’s Steve Hesketh, Ben Bourke of Ned Collette, and Chris Richards of The Beautiful Few.

Victorians are the lucky ones though, as all the announced gigs are in Glenn’s home state. Hopefully it won’t be too long before he treats the rest of Australia to some of those shows. Until then, here are the dates!

17 March 2011 – Karova Lounge, Ballarat
18 March 2011 – Nortcote Social Club, Melbourne
19 March 2011 – Mossvale Music Festival, Melbourne

Tune in to Glenn Richards Radio

How are we all surviving hump day? I don’t know about you, but as the afternoon winds down I start looking for things to distract me. That’s where Glenn Richards Radio comes in, a new web page which gives us a sneak peek at the Augie March frontman’s new album Glimjack.

Just hover around the webpage and you’ll hear snippets of each album track and read the lyrics. The music’s great – that goes without saying – but the format is strangely addictive. As I say, maybe I’m just looking for distraction but I’ve wasted a bit of time playing with this today!

Glenn Richards Releases “Torpor & Spleen” Video

Last month I was waxing lyrical about “Torpor & Spleen,” the first single from Glenn Richards’ first Augie Marchless-album Glimjack. Now with the release of the official music video, you all get a chance to hear it.

The video’s every bit as organic as the song, with live footage shot in a Melbourne warehouse. It’s not very flashy, but music this good doesn’t need bells and whistles.

This is a nice little taster of what’s to come when Glimjack hits record stores on October 29.

Glenn Richards Releases Single Ahead of Solo Album

I’ve always been a fan of Glenn Richards work in Augie March, so I was keen to see what his solo music brought.

Solo projects are usually a bit of a departure, allowing musicians to explore genres and techniques they can’t within the constraints of their band, and it seems Glenn’s is no different. So far I’ve only listened to the single “Torpor & Spleen,” but it’s got a lovely organic quality to it which veers dangerously close to bluegrass. Don’t worry; that’s a good thing.

It’s definitely the kind of tune that makes me want to hear more of Glimjack, the solo album Glenn Richards has worked on with his friends Dan Luscombe, Mike Noga, Ben Bourke, and brother Chris. They’re a talented bunch, and no doubt this album, which will hit stores on November 5, is going to be critically acclaimed. That’s high praise indeed coming from just one single, but it’s just that good.
