Grace Amos Releases Strong Single, “By the Grace of God”

Grace Amos is one of those special artists who seem to get better with every single release. She’s always had a cool angsty rock vibe reminiscent of Alanis Morissette or Demi Lovato, depending on your vintage. But in her latest track “By the Grace of God, ” she sounds her most confident. It’s only fitting as the song talks about embracing and retaining your own power, even when faced with seemingly all-consuming love.

“It’s mainly about looking back on previous relationships I’ve shared and how I always put in so much, without really getting the same in return,” she admitted. “So I wrote this as a reminder to myself to know what I’m worth, to stop letting people “walk all over me”. I wrote this song for me.”

Grace will release her debut EP early next year.

Grace Amos Has Plenty to Say With New Single

Grab the hairbrush, crank up the volume, and enjoy the angsty pop-rock stylings of Grace Amos’ new single “Nothing to Say.” It’s a relatable track about someone who shoots their mouth off but doesn’t contribute anything of value. Grace cites Alanis Morrisette and Miley Cyrus among her musical heroes and you can certainly hear their influence on this track.

“The song was originally about someone I knew who thought they knew everything, always had to share their opinion and fill the silence but ultimately, they really had ‘nothing to say’. When working on the song six months after the original demo I realised I had this one person on my mind a bit and needed to vent! The lyrics are about someone who is all talk and no game basically — it’s all a bit of fun really,” Grace explained.

Grace drops her debut EP, ALL ABT U, on September 2. She’ll also play her first festival, Valleyways, in Benkennie/Camden on September 10.

Grace Amos Covers Foo Fighters’ Classic, “Everlong”

The Foo Fighters’ concert in Geelong last night seemed like a turning point in the pandemic. It was the first time an international artist visited our shores and played a full-scale gig since this shitshow began. Friends in New South Wales and Queensland crossed the border and plenty of my Victorian buddies got themselves along. From all the photos and streams I saw, it was a triumph. The set celebrated the hits, concluding with my favourite: “Everlong.” If you missed the gig or just want a little more Foo Fighters music in your life, check out this fab new cover from Sydney artist Grace Amos.

Now I’m going to warn you, this is very different from the Fooies original. But I’ve always believed if you can’t bring something new to a song, why cover it in the first place? The gentle piano treatment really brings out those incredible lyrics. Grace is also in fine voice here. It might be a dramatic departure, but I love it.

“Something about Everlong has always caught my eye,” Grace said. “It’s so beautiful, and so well known that I was confused as to why I couldn’t find a cover of it that really showcases the lyrics. I feel that I’ve really achieved this, particularly with the mix of piano and strings in the instrumental.”

While her next show might not be as big as the Foo Fighters gig, ValleyWays is sure to be a good time. With The Rubens, Middle Kids, Skeggs, Slowly Slowly, and heaps more on the bill, you don’t want to miss this. It hits Onslow Oval in Camden on September 10.
