Sounds of Oz On Hiatus

I never do this, but I’m going to announce a pause in our regular programming of music news and views. Whenever I go away on holidays, I always manage to create enough posts to go live while I’m gone, but this time it just wasn’t meant to be. So while I’m living it up on a cruise, I’m going to ask you all to bear with me. I’ll be back in business on April 15. Until then, make sure you continue finding all the great Aussie music you can. If you discover something amazing, leave a comment and tell me what it is. I’d love to hear what’s floating your boat when I’m back on dry land.

Coerce Prepare for Hiatus After Album Launch

Music’s a labour of love for post-hardcore band Coerce. For the last five years, the lads from Adelaide have worked tirelessly and poured their hard earned savings into it. They even moved to Aussie music hub Melbourne. The result is their album Genome, a project they’re immensely proud of.

But operating as an independent act has sadly taken its toll, prompting Coerce to call it a day, at least for now.

“Independent rock and roll is hanging by the decayed skin of all of our teeth, local shows are getting less and less support,” Coerce admitted.

But they won’t go out without launching Genome. In front of their adopted hometown, Coerce will have what may be their very last gig at The Gasometer on January 11.

“Please support this local show, buy a record, a shirt, a beer and maybe some day we may deliver a new record and possibly afford to play in other towns once more,” Coerce urge fans. How could you say no?

Jet Grounded

Jet drummer Chris Cester has announced his award-winning rock band are taking an indefinite break.

In a statement on the band’s MySpace page, he joked “We’ve all given ourselves 100% pay cuts, which means we are all fired.”

It seems years of relentless touring have taken their toll, with Chris adding that “We sat ourselves down and realised that with all the time we have spent away from home, Jet could finally use some down time.”

That down time is likely to give the band members the opportunity to work on solo projects and other musical endeavours. Nic Cester will be playing some solo sets, Cam Muncey is reportedly writing new material, and Mark Wilson and Chris Cester have recently done some production work for Japanese band Superfly.

Something tells me the lads won’t completely disappear from our radar any time soon.
