Born Joy Dead Announce EP Launch Shows

Former Hungry Kids of Hungary frontman Ben Dalton teased us with new music from his latest endeavour Born Joy Dead with last year’s release of the single “Upside Down Inside Out.” Now with the official release of the EP Stones in My Shoe I’ve had the chance to hear a little more.

The single sets up the EP nicely. The music is upbeat and light-hearted, with a grungy fuzziness that roughens up its pop core. Born Joy Dead will showcase their new material at the following launch shows.

8 May 2015 – Black Bear Lodge, Brisbane
16 May 2015 – Little and Oliver, Melbourne
7 June 2015 – Livespark @ Powerhouse, Brisbane (FREE)
19 June 2015 – Mum @ The World Bar, Kings Cross

Former Hungry Kids Form Sans Parents

From the ashes of Hungry Kids of Hungary, Sans Parents have come to be. The trio features former Hungry Kids Kane Mazlin and Ryan Strathie and Sydney session player Alex Bennison.

The guys originally planned to assist one another on new post-band solo projects, but they worked so well together that they put together almost enough material for a new album in no time at all. Sensing that the stars had aligned they decided to stick together, and Sans Parents was born.

“Coming Back to You” has a melodic core wrapped up in a big ball of aggression. It’s fast and furious and so much fuzzy fun. What do you think of it?

Ben Dalton Moves on from Hungry Kids of Hungary with Born Joy Dead

Like so many Aussies, I was really disappointed to see Hungry Kids of Hungary go their separate ways. Generally when these things happen you expect the lead singer to launch the first high-profile solo project, but the band’s bassist Ben Dalton has actually gotten in first. The Brisbane musician has just launched his solo project, Born Joy Dead, and his debut single “Upside Down, Inside Out.”

The quirky bassline is sure to delight Hungry Kids of Hungary fans. But beyond that, the song’s got such a great new wave feel to it. If this is a sign of things to come, Ben Dalton’s destined for solo success.

Groovin’ the Moo Announces 2013 Lineup

Groovin’ the Moo is back and ready to rock regional Australia once again.

The organisers have assembled an impressive lineup for 2013, including international acts They Might Be Giants, Tegan and Sara, The Kooks, and Example. The local talent is hardly lacking either, with The Temper Trap, Tame Impala, Hungry Kids of Hungary, Flume, and Urthboy all on the bill.

Punters will also enjoy local food stalls, markets, slingshot rides, and chill-out areas for those moments when it all gets too much.

Maitland and Canberra festival goers can get their tickets from 9 am on February 5, and music lovers in Bendigo, Townsville, and Bunbury can get theirs on February 6. How clever yet simple to see a festival staggering sales to prevent system meltdown! All tickets will be available from the Groovin’ the Moo website and Moshtix for $99.90 plus booking fee.
