ISHAN Releases Tender Track “A Song For My Brother”

ISHAN initially won me over with fun acoustic pop ditties like “My Mouth (la la la)” and “Supernova.” He’s switched gears with his latest single, “A Song For My Brother.” It’s still got the acoustic core I love, but it’s much more sombre than his previous efforts. You might want to reach for the tissues before you press play.

“‘The song is not actually about my brother, but someone else I love very much,” ISHAN explained. “For years I’d watched his sense of self-worth and excitement for life eroded by so-called friends who’d take advantage of his kindness and ability to always see the best in others.”

ISHAN’s been incredibly busy lately playing the All About Music conference in India and showcases at BIGSOUND here at home. But he’s definitely not done gigging this year. Catch him at the following shows in the coming months.

27 September 2024 – Northcote Social Club, Naarm/Melbourne (supporting GO-JO)
12 October 2024 – One Tropical Day @ Darwin Ski Club, Larrakia Country/Bundilla Beach
19 October 2024 – Big Pineapple Festival @ Pineapple Fields, Kabi Kabi Country/Woombye
30 December 2024 – 1 January 2025 – NYE on the Hill, Kurnai Country/South Gippsland

ISHAN Shows His Star Power With “Supernova”

After impressing me a few months back with “My Mouth (la la la),” ISHAN has done it again with his latest single “Supernova.” It’s got a similar acoustic pop vibe that perfectly translates the simmering story of two people who cross that sometimes murky line separating platonic love and sexual attraction.

“‘Supernova’ is about a deep friendship shattered by passion,” explains ISHAN. “Reacting to an unexpected kiss and trying to figure out if your love for that person extends beyond the platonic is really difficult in a split second. The song explores the somewhat precarious and practically autonomous response ‘kiss her back now and unpack the consequences later’. It touches on the confusion and uncertainty of the moment in trying to determine what it is you really want and questions whether sacrificing a friendship is a risk worth taking in the pursuit of love.”

ISHAN has already had a big year selling out the Workers Club and playing Tenerife Festival and his first Eora/Sydney headlining show. I can’t wait to hear what’s next for this talented Naarm/Melbourne artist.

ISHAN Releases Gorgeous Acoustic-Pop Track “My Mouth (la la la)”

France-born and Naarm/Melbourne based, 20-year-old ISHAN may just be your next acoustic-pop obsession. Footage of him playing his new track “My Mouth (la la la)” while busking went viral earlier online earlier this year. Now the song has an official release, you can expect to hear a lot more about him. It’s got a cool acoustic vibe that reminds me a lot of Vance Joy or Noah Kahan.

ISHAN wrote the song during a period of self-reflection, noting “I was meeting lots of new people but my self-confidence was low and I found myself trying to fit a social stereotype by portraying an image that was different to the real me.”

ISHAN just wrapped up a seven-date tour with Jack Botts and signed a co-management deal with Jaddan Commerford (Vance Joy, Tash Sultana) and Nick Lynagh (Gang Of Youths, Middle Kids, Brad Cox), so we can expect to see a lot more from him in the future. After going down the Spotify rabbit hole and hearing more of his music, I think that’s a very good thing.
