Jacob Butler Unplugs on Kids WB

Kids WB isn’t usually the place I head for live musical performances, but with most networks scrapping their variety shows I suppose we have to take them where we can! Perhaps I should start watching the kiddies’ cartoon show more often, because in amongst the animation they featured Jacob Butler playing an acoustic rendition of his current single “Come My Way.”

I’m such a fan of this song, and in acoustic mode it’s even better. The song’s also going great guns at the moment, with airplay on two of Germany’s biggest radio stations. Now if only we could get some local stations on board! This is one of those tracks that deserves to be heard!

Jacob Butler Scores South African Deal

Things are on the up for Jacob Butler. Fresh from the release of his new single “Come My Way,” the X Factor and Australian Idol graduate has inked a record deal with South Africa’s The David Gresham Company, the same independent label that takes care of The Temper Trap, Placebo, Nickelback, and Bush.

The deal will expose Jacob’s work to music lovers in South Africa and its territories, including Mozambique, Zambia, and Zimbabwe. “Come My Way” will hit the nation’s radio waves in the coming weeks.

“Come My Way” has also just hit radio after Munich based promoter Robert Larasser became interested in the track.

The “Come My Way” video has been viewed more than 125, 000 since its release two months ago, and it sounds like it’ll have plenty more hits in the months to come!

Jacob Butler’s Back with “UKOK?”

As London rebuilds, Australian Idol alum Jacob Butler has paid tribute to the city which has influenced his sound with his new single “UKOK?”

The film clip features footage of the chaos we saw the riot-gripped city experiencing just weeks ago, and some royal wedding footage for good measure! The video is an ideal backdrop for this single, which sees Jacob rocking much harder than he did in his last release “Coma.”

“UKOK?” is the lead track from Jacob’s much anticipated debut album Reason, which we should see in stores later this year. If you can’t wait that long you can download the song from iTunes.

Australian Idol Alum Jacob Butler Releases "Coma"

Last night Australian Idol made its long-awaited return to television screens. Looking at the ratings, perhaps I was the only one hanging out for the reality TV show! While Marcia, Dicko, and co. are sorting out the wheat from the chaff, I thought it was a good time to look back at one of the past successes.

Jacob Butler appeared a couple of years ago, and has taken his time to produce his new single “Coma.” The title makes the song sound a little snoozeworthy, but it actually reminds me a lot of Crowded House. Jacob was so obsessed with Britpop on the show; I really like this change in direction. Hopefully there’s more to come!

Jacob Butler’s Ready to Record

It looks like we haven’t seen the last of Australian Idol finalist Jacob Butler. He’s been playing charity gigs around the place as he prepares to record his debut album.

Last night he wowed the crowd at the Advertiser Sunday Mail Foundation do in Adelaide with an acoustic set of original songs.

“I want to make a record that has relevance in 20 years time – I’m a songwriter so I’ve got a huge catalogue of songs in me,” Jacob told The Advertiser.

“I’ve been doing a few charity gigs so here’s hoping they bring back a bit of good karma.”

But it wasn’t all about business. The visit gave Jakey B a chance to catch up with his South Australian family.

“It’s the first time I’ve been back since March, and mum’s come down from Port Lincoln to hang out … and iron my shirt,” he joked.

After so many attempts to find stardom on reality TV, it’s good to hear Jacob is capitalising on his newfound fame and working towards releasing that album. I can’t wait to hear it.

Jacob Booted From Idol Stage

And then there were seven. After being a regular in the bottom three, it was no great surprise to bid farewell to Jacob Butler last night.

The Melbourne lad was gracious in defeat, displaying humility at odds to his often cocky and brash onstage persona.

“It’s one of those things, it’s a competition,” he told the Idol crowd last night.

“Everyone here is just so good it can go any way. I was here last week and I’m here again, so well I’m going home now.”

The biggest surprise on the night was that Central Coast lad Marty Simpson again escaped the bottom three. Many felt Marty’s number was up after Dicko begged Australia not to vote for him. I guess no one listens to Dicko; Daniel Mifsud and Carl Riseley earned fewer votes.

Next week the contestants can choose songs from the year of their birth. With so many young performers this year, expect plenty of music from the 80s!
