Jacob Fitzgerald Releases Atypical Love Song “Sophia”

We all know Valentine’s Day is a Hallmark holiday and we should be keeping romance alive all year round, but I think it’s also kind of nice to take the day to celebrate love. In honour of February 14, Jacob Fitzgerald has released his brand new single “Sophia.” It starts as a classic tale of boy meets girl, but this is no ordinary love song.

“Sophia’ is a simple premise: a man falls in love with a woman, but the woman does not fall in love with the man. It’s the tale of a heartbreaker,” Jacon said. “After absorbing the Nashville music scene in early 2023, I came home with the original riff and hook for ‘Sophia’ tattooed on my mind. The enhanced blues-rock-inspired nature of my music consumption gave birth to a song I knew I NEEDED to write. As someone who feels deeply, in my mind, Sophia is distant, hurt and cautious with who she lets love her.”

Jacob has some choice supporting slots coming up. Make sure you arrive early enough for his set if you have tickets to any of these shows:

28 February 2024 – Max Watts, Naarm/Melbourne (supporting The Struts)
9 March 2024 – Oxford Art Factory, Eora/Sydney (supporting Pacific Avenue)
22 March 2024 – Howler, Naarm/Melbourne (supporting Jack Botts)
23 March 2024 – Downtown Shepparton, Kanny-Goopna/Shepparton (supporting Jack Botts)

“Jacob Fitzgerald & The Electric City” – Jacob Fitzgerald

I must admit, I listened to Jacob Fitzgerald’s new EP, Jacob Fitzgerald & The Electric City, more out of my own interest than any serious desire to write up a review. I’ve already fawned over three of the EP’s six tracks, so what more would I have to say? There’s probably a point where continuing to praise an artist gets boring, but once I listened to this EP I knew I’d have to put my fingers to the keyboard and get typing.

Jacob had already shown incredible diversity, delivering rock swag with his song “Muse,” then showing his softer side with softer, more pop-influenced tracks “The Long Way Home” and “Shame on You.” The EP delivers more pieces of the Jacob Fitzgerald puzzle. The opening track and current single “My Girl” reminds me a little of “Jessie’s Girl,” both thematically and in terms of its instant radio-friendly appeal. “The Electric City” is a brooding synth-driven number that has me thinking of classic 80s tunes from Don Henley and Tears for Fears. It’s really cool. After the bravado of “Muse,” the vulnerability he shows in “Peter Pan” is even more striking.

Jacob Fitzgerald & The Electric City shows Jacob is such a multi-faceted artist with plenty to show us. Something tells me that while this EP is diverse, something tells me there’s plenty more to come. That’s exciting. Jacob is about the embark on the shows in the major capitals supporting Loose Bricks. Rest assured, you want to turn up early enough for his set.

Jacob Fitzgerald Continues His Winning Ways With “Long Way Home”

It’s starting to feel like Naarm/Melbourne-based indie-rock artist Jacob Fitzgerald can do no wrong. After wowing me with his previous singles “Muse” and “Shame on You,” he’s back with the earnest pop-rock gem, “Long Way Home.”

“It covers my own heartbreak and tells a story of loss. Basically, ‘Long Way Home’ is the song I wish I never had to write,”Jacoe admitted. “Essentially, LWH is about savouring the moment before the final goodbye. It follows the shock of heartbreak and captures the emotions of knowing that no matter what is said, the choice won’t be yours … they’ve made up their mind. It was a goal of the band and me to capture the intimacy and intensity of this track both lyrically and sonically. Overall, ‘Long Way Home’ was written to mend a broken heart, and with the help of my closest friends, we built a track that we just fricken love! I’m so proud of it as it captures a moment in time, I never knew I wanted to keep. It’s my silver lining and I can only hope it makes people feel something too!”

Jacob will play a string of shows to celebrate the single’s release. Catch him at the following venues:

25 November 2022 – Black Bear Lodge, Meeanjin/Brisbane
26 November 2022 – Hiway Live, Eora/Sydney

Jacob Fitzgerald Drops Pop-Rock Smash, “Shame On You”

After rocking out with his last single “Muse,” Jacob Fitzgerald has released his cool follow-up, “Shame on You.” This is classic pop-rock, the kind of music that you just don’t hear enough of these days. Hopefully he’s spearheading a revival!

“‘Shame on You’ is a heartbreak song through and through, and is based around those few days following a breakup,” Jacob explained. “It captures the regret; the things we’d wished we’d said and the desperation. It’s essentially saying, ‘I know that I agreed we’d go our separate ways, but I was speaking opposites; I don’t want this… what am I without you?’”

After touring the East Coast in August with Selfish Sons, Jacob is gearing up to do it all again with a new tour set to be announced in the coming weeks. Follow him on the socials to learn about his next shows the moment they’re announced.

Jacob Fitzgerald Rocks Out With “Muse”

Naarm/Melbourne-based artist Jacob Fitzgerald serves up a slice of classic rock with his bold new single “Muse”. This is an irresistible track with a killer bass line and plenty of swagger.

“Essentially, there are times where I’m writing about love/lust, but I’m not actively in love or possessing a similar feeling. In those situations, I found I naturally gravitate to basing the subject around this one particular person,” Jacob explained. “To be honest, I don’t even really know her, but she somehow is tattooed into my subconscious and is someone I can draw inspiration from EVERY. SINGLE. TIME. I dunno, she just has the ‘thing’.”

A track this energetic is going to only get better in the live arena, so Jacob and his band are heading on tour. Catch them supporting Selfish Sons at the following shows:

12 August 2022 – The Zoo, Meeanjin/Brisbane
