James Reyne and Mark Seymour Touring Together

James Reyne and Mark Seymour are some of Australia’s most enduring talents. I’ve seen them both live many times, and they’ve never delivered anything less but stellar performances. They’re very giving artists, continuing to play the hits the fans love while gently introducing them to the incredible new music they both produce. Local music fans are in for a real treat when they team up for a string of shows later this year.

James and Mark promise to perform together and alone, with songs drawing from their days with Australian Crawl, Hunters & Collectors, and their extensive solo careers. The gigs will also be semi-acoustic, which is perfect for these small venues.

James Reyne Takes the Hits on the Road

He’s currently keeping Rod Stewart company on his Aussie tour, but James Reyne is already looking ahead to solo shows. Just as he’s doing on his current supporting stint, James will play a hit-filled set in capital cities around the country.

Over 90 minutes, James will take crowds on a trip down memory lane with his best known Australian Crawl hits, solo smashes, and more.

“Last year we did a run of shows playing Australian Crawl songs, had such a good time doing it, and audiences responded so enthusiastically that we thought that the only thing that could possibly be better was to play all the hits,” James explained. “I’m talking about The Crawl hits, the solo hits and even some Company Of Strangers. Yes folks, it’s nothing but hits, hits, hits – all killer no filler!”

James Reyne Plays Australian Crawl This August

It’s not quite an Australian Crawl reunion, but fans will enjoy the next best thing when James Reyne and a talented group of supporting musicians pay tribute to the songs of this classic rock act and its dearly departed members in August.

“Over the years we have often been asked if this could ever happen? Now is the time,” James explained. “You will never see Australian Crawl again. It just isn’t possible. This is the next best thing. We’re playing ‘ALL CRAWL.’”

With hits like “Errol,” “The Boys Light Up,” “Oh No Not You Again,” “Downhearted,” “Beautiful People,” “Fall of Rome,” and so many more to their name, these Australian Crawl shows are sure to have some of the best set lists you’re ever likely to hear. James Reyne Plays Greatest Hits

I’ve always thought of James Reyne as the perfect model for how an Australian musician should conduct their career. He continues to produce top quality albums and gig all around the country, delicately striking the balance of giving the fans what they want to hear while developing his artistry. There hasn’t been a lot of fanfare around his more recent album releases, but they’re always fabulous.

Late in 2013, James celebrated those songs and all his old favourites at his A Crawl to Now shows at The Basement in Sydney. It seems it had so much fun that he’s taking the show on the road. The gigs which will feature the hits from James’ Australian Crawl days, his time with Company of Strangers, and his stellar solo songs. They’ll be all acoustic too, with able support from Tracy and Brett Kingman.

“Whilst I’m not inclined to get all nostalgic, it feels like the right time to go through this material and present it songbook style,” James said in a press release. “The songs we’ve chosen are a lot of fun to perform – and it scratches my never-ending itch to tour, to play live!”

If you’ve never seen James play, this is the perfect opportunity. And if you have, you know you won’t want to miss these greatest hits sets.

James Reyne Plays Greatest Hits in Sydney

James Reyne will celebrate his career over two big nights at Sydney’s The Basement this November. The Aussie music icon will play his A Crawl to Now shows on November 1 and 2.

James will play some of his greatest hits from more than 20 albums with an acoustic trio. In the first half he’ll offer up solo hits, some new material, and perhaps even a few numbers from his supergroup Company of Strangers. In the second half, James will trot out smash singles from the Australian Crawl days.

“This will be the first comprehensive look at the past unto the present that we’ve ever undertaken,” James said. “Up until now I’ve not contemplated sifting through all of the Australian Crawl material with the intention of performing it ‘songbook’ style. I’m very excited about these shows.”

These gigs are fast approaching, but general admission tickets are still available for both shows through The Basement.

James Reyne @ Lizotte’s, Kincumber – 12 July 2008

Last night I headed out to my favourite venue, Lizotte’s, to see one of my favourite performers, James Reyne. The reasons why I love both venue and performer so much are similar: they deliver exceptional quality each and every time.

So I was in a good mood long before James took to the stage. It might have had something to do with the exquisite barramundi spring rolls and herbed rack of lamb I devoured, or the good company of my husband and parents, or the delicious pinot grigio we were all drinking. Nevertheless, when the support act Lianna Rose stepped out we were ready to have a good time.

Lianna was excellent, a storyteller with a rock rasp. She reminded me a little of Sheryl Crow with her knowing way and earnest performance. Her cover version of “Time After Time” was a highlight for me, but I also adored her originals. It’s just a shame that the folks sitting at the tables surrounding us didn’t make the effort to listen to her. Trying to hear her over their chatter was a little frustrating.

Thankfully they gave more attention to Mr Reyne. It’s been years since I’ve seen him perform with a full band, and Lizotte’s is the perfect setting for that acoustic mode he favours. Stripped back with two backup singers and a handful of acoustic guitars, these classic songs and their words become the focus.

And what classics they are. We joined James on tracks like “Slave,” “One More River,” “Way Out West,” “Hammerhead,” “Errol,” “Fall Of Rome” and “Reckless.” It’s impossible not to have a wonderful time with a soundtrack like that. James is one of those performers who loves to sing the songs we love to hear, which is why I keep coming back time and time again.
