Jem Cassar-Daley Releases Powerful New Single, “King of Disappointment”

Jem Cassar-Daley really impressed me with singles from her debut EP like “Oh No” and “Like It More.” So I’m thrilled she’s going from strength to strength with her first new music since that release. I must admit, while I enjoyed her past releases, I think her latest single “King of Disappointment” is my favourite yet. It’s so lyrically strong, with a stripped-back vibe that really showcases those powerful lyrics. If you’ve ever felt gaslighted and let down, you’re going to connect with this one.

“Before heading to Sydney to write with Brendon Boney in the “resonate” program, I had a situation where my shoes were on, makeup done and I was ready to head out the door when I got a “sorry, something came up” text,” Jem shared. “Instead of being sad, I decided to use it as inspiration in the studio.”

Jem Cassar-Daley Releases Fun New Single “Oh No” Ahead of EP Release

Jem Cassar-Daley has released a fresh new single “Oh No” ahead of the release of her debut EP. It’s got such a great pop vibe and an addictive melody that I can’t get out of my head. Jem’s vocals are also superb on this one.

“I wrote ‘Oh No’ at my first ever APRA SONGHUBS on the Gold Coast last year, where I met Ali Barter and Tom Eggert,” Jem explained. “We had a session together and started jamming on the guitar and the song took its form from there. The vocals in the final track are actually the original demo vocals recorded in Bignote Studios! We felt that the energy from that day was hard to recapture so we kept them.”

Jem continued collaborating with Tom, recording the song in his study in the valley earlier this year.

Jem’s debut EP I Don’t Know Who to Call drops next Friday. In addition to its launch event, Jem has plenty of gigs booked for the next couple of months. Here are all the dates you need:

29 May 2022 – Reconciliation Day Even Concert @ Canberra Theatre, Canberra
9 June 2022 – The Outpost Bar, Brisbane
24 June 2022 – Coutts Crossing Coronation Hall, Coutts Crossing
30 July 2022 – Live! at the Baptist @ Studio 188, Ipswich
26-28 August 2022 – Gurindji Freedom Day Festival, Kalkarindji

Jem Cassar-Daley Releases New Single “Like It More”

There’s only one way for a musician to step out of the shadows of a famous parent: release your own fabulous tunes. That’s just what Jem Cassar-Daley, the daughter of country legend Troy Cassar-Daley, is doing. Her first two singles “Letting Go” and “Changes” got plenty of support from Triple J Unearthed and Spotify, and her third track “Like It More” is likely to be every bit as popular.

I love this song’s authenticity. It doesn’t try too hard to win us over. Jem’s vocals are understated but gorgeous. She simply tells the story of how to move on and find strength in yourself. That’s a message that so many of us need to hear now and again.

“Tia Gostelow and I started writing this track last year and had so much fun with it. ‘Like it More’ captures the moment of realisation after a breakup that you can be happy with your own company. I was going through a really tough time last year with my boyfriend at the time, and I was able to do a lot of writing and collaborations which was such a great outlet for me,” she said. “For anyone going through a breakup, this song is a how-to guide on how to back yourself and learn to be your own best friend.”

If you like what you hear, you’ll be thrilled to learn there’s more to come. Jem will release an EP in the not-too-distant future. Expect to hear more songs from the EP at the following shows:

22 April 2022 – Tamworth Town Hall, Tamworth (supporting Busby Marou)
1 May 2022 – Jungle Love Festival, Imbil
30 July 2022 – Live! At the Baptist @ Studio 188, Ipswich
