Paul Kelly Earns His First Number One Album

Paul Kelly is a true national treasure, so it’s amazing to realise this week he’s scored his very first number one album. Life is Fine, his 23rd studio album, has zoomed to the top of the charts on debut, unseating the Ed Sheeran’s heavyweight ÷.

Jen Cloher
is another Aussie making her presence known with her new self-titled album. The follow-up to 2013’s In Blood Memory has debuted at number 5.

Sadly we don’t have any Aussie songs in the top 10 singles … or the top 20 … or the top 30. Come on Australia! Our artists are releasing some wonderful songs!

Jen Cloher Readies Fan Funded Album

Following a successful crowd-sourcing campaign, Jen Cloher will release her third album In Blood Memory next month.

The album, which was written over the last six months and recorded in just six days, is the follow-up to Jen’s acclaimed sophomore effort Hidden Hands. The album could have been very dark after Jen lost both her parents at the end of 2011. However, rather than dwelling on her sorrow she decided to create a more positive record.

“I had written an album worth of songs by the beginning of 2012 but I decided to scrap them and start again. My previous album Hidden Hands had been about loss and I didn’t have the emotional energy to explore that territory again,” she explained. Instead, I wanted to write about what was alive in me.

In Blood Memory is a live album. Its strength lies in passionate performances from a great band. Drums are spilling into vocal mics and guitars into drum overheads. All of my vocals are live. There is no separation.”

In Blood Memory will hit stores on May 27.

Jen Cloher Plans Fan-Funded Album

Do you like this song? Then you’ll want to keep reading.

That’s “Mount Beauty,” the first single from Jen Cloher’s third album. However if her fans don’t pitch in and support her, that album might not ever be made.

Jen’s the latest Australian artist to ditch studio control to create an independent album, with the kindness of strangers. The idea makes sense for Jen, as she says her fans have allowed her to enjoy life as an indie act.

“My success rests entirely upon the interest you have shown in my work, that support has enabled me to continue to create, release and tour my music in Australia.”

Through the Pozible platform Jen hopes to raise $15,000 to get her latest record made. She’s currently about five grand shy of her target, but you can help her get there.

So what’s in it for you? Well aside from the good karma and great music to follow, you could star in Jen’s next film clip, hear the album on vinyl while her band cooks you a Mexican meal, or have Jen write a song especially for you.

Sound good? Well dig deep and support Jen’s Pozible campaign!

Stars Raise Awareness of Climate Change

You may have seen Cate Blanchett talking about the Who On Earth Cares website on TV, but she’s not the only Australian celebrity supporting this fantastic climate change site.

Felix Riebl (The Cat Empire), Mark Seymour, Mia Dyson, Katie Noonan, and Jen Cloher have joined more than 13, 000 Australians who’ve signed on to raise awareness of this key environmental issue.

“I care about climate change because this world is an amazing, wonderful place, and I find it depressing to think that I was part of a species that wrecked so much of that beauty,” Felix says on his Who on Earth Cares profile.

“I am concerned about climate change because it will make the very world unliveable if we let climate change continue its course,” added Mia Dyson.

So don’t let it happen! Join these celebrities and sign up on the website. You’ll be inspired by the cool energy saving tips. The site will even help you compose a letter encouraging your local government member to develop more responsible climate change policies. But my favourite part is the interactive map, which lets you read what other environmentally conscious folks are doing in your neighbourhood. Check it out!
