Here’s our first look at Bran Nue Dae, the flick that sees Aussie singers Jessica Mauboy and Missy Higgins make their cinematic debuts. They join Aussie film royalty in the form of Ernie Dingo, Deborah Mailman, Magda Szubanski, and the incomparable Geoffrey Rush. The film looks like great fun, a real change of pace from the gritty dramas the Aussie industry is so fond of churning out! Bran Nue Dae makes it premiere at the Melbourne International Film Festival next month.

Jessica Mauboy Burns Up the Charts
Jessica Mauboy’s second solo single “Burn” has proven its slow burn appeal, landing at the top spot on the ARIA singles charts this week. With the single debuting eight weeks ago, I’ll bet Jess wondered if she’d ever score that number one!
It’s been a much more meteoric rise for Natalie Bassingthwaighte, who’s rocketed into ninth position with “Someday Soon.” What an awesome effort for its first week in the charts!
AC/DC continue their dominance, outperforming all other Aussie albums with the five-times platinum Black Ice. It’s sitting at number four after thirteen weeks in the charts.
The massive Aussie soundtrack from the even bigger series Packed to the Rafters sits at number eight. Featuring acts like Ben Lee, Josh Pyke, and Gabriella Cilmi it’s little wonder people are buying this one in droves. It sounds like ideal Australia Day barbie music to me!
David Campbell rounds out the top 10 with one of my favourite albums at the moment, Good Lovin’. This is the sixties soul cover album’s highest chart position to date!
Here’s this week’s complete top ten!

Jessica Mauboy Eyes World Stage
Jessica Mauboy has just wrapped up filming her role in Bran Nue Dae, an adaption of an indigenous musical. The former Young Diva will star alongside Ernie Dingo, Geoffrey Rush, Missy Higgins, and Deborah Mailman in the film which should hit screens in the middle of next year.
Jess seems made for her role of Rosie, a young girl who dreams of a singing career. She recently spoke to The Sydney Morning Herald about the film.
“It’s based in Broome in the ’60s, so you might see us wearing high-waisted coral denim but it’s very cultural and it’s a very joyous movie, and I was very lucky to be a part of it,” she said.
Next on the agenda for Jess is a performance at Wednesday night’s New Year’s Eve concert in Sydney. She will sing her smash hit “Running Back” and the new single, “Burn.” If you’re not in Sydney you can catch her performance on Channel Ten.
2009 looks like a bright year for Ms Mauboy, who hopes to take her music to New York and London. But if her plans for global domination don’t pan out, she knows staying in Australia isn’t such a bad thing.
“No biggie if it doesn’t end up happening,” she said. “Australia’s my home and this is kinda where I wanted to be anyway.”

New Song Obsession: "Burn" by Jessica Mauboy
Jessica Mauboy is fast becoming Australia’s answer to Rihanna. Her new single “Burn” is another sizzling slice of soulful pop. I think this is even catchier than “Running Back,” so I won’t be surprised if it scorches up the charts. With it’s R’n’ B grooves and catchy chorus, this is likely to be the song you’ll be humming all summer.
Jessica Mauboy’s Releases Album and Film!
Jessica Mauboy’s star is on the rise. After the top three success of her debut single “Running Back,” Jess is preparing to release her debut album Been Waiting. She’s also set to star in the new local film Bran Nue Dae!
Jess shows she’s got more than just an amazing voice on Been Waiting. She co-wrote all the tracks and spent 12 months to create a collection of urban pop tracks she could be proud of.
Jessica’s acting career couldn’t be off to a better start either. In Bran Nue Dae she’ll star alongside Geoffrey Rush and Ernie Dingo. The film version of this Indigenous musical has just commenced filming in Broome. A singer and now an actress? It sounds like Jessica could be our next superstar!
Been Waiting hits stores on November 22. Brand Nue Dae will be released in cinemas across the country in 2009.

Jessica Mauboy’s "Running Back" with Flo Rida
Jessica Mauboy’s well and truly shed her poppy Young Divas image with her slick new single “Running Back.” I can’t say I like the song’s sentiment (where’s the girl power?) but there’s no denying that it’s catchy. Jess is also in fine voice here. When she was competing with the other Divas I almost forgot how well she sings! Everything Flo Rida touches turns to gold, so his appearance here is sure to make “Running Back” a hit. It definitely deserves to be!
Flo Rida Runs with Jess Mauboy
Flo Rida is adding a dose of cred to the first solo album of former Young Diva and Australian Idol runner-up Jessica Mauboy. The hip hop megastar joins Jess on her first solo single, “Running Back.”
It appears Jess may follow in Ricki-Lee Coulter’s footsteps. Ricki-Lee’s career flourished once she left her Diva band mates, and if the hype is any indication Jess will taste the same success. The Darwin teen is already being compared to Rihanna by some industry insiders for her strong vocals and songwriting prowess.
“Running Back” will hit radio in the next couple of weeks. Jessica Mauboy’s debut album will be released early next year.

Jessica Mauboy Indonesia Bound
Jessica Mauboy will explore her Indonesian heritage later this month when she heads to Jakarta as part of a cultural exchange. Her father is Indonesian, while her mother is of indigenous Australian, native American, and English descent.
That’s some mix!
The Young Diva was invited as a guest of the Australian Embassy in Jakarta to participate in the week-long trip.
While she’s there Jess will perform on the Indonesian breakfast TV show Nuansa Pagi and Indonesian Idol Spectacular. She’ll also attend a special function for Australian Ambassador Bill Farmer. Sounds like she’s going to be a busy girl!
Jessica is currently working on her solo release, which has got to be a welcome change from those Young Divas dance covers!

Jessica Mauboy’s Talent is Deadly
She may have lost the Australian Idol crown to Damien Leith, but there was no second prize for Jessica Mauboy last night. The teen sensation was named Artist of the Year at the Deadly Awards.
The Deadlys celebrate the achievements of indigenous Australians in music, sport, entertainment, and the community.
“Being part indigenous, it does mean a lot,” said Jess, whose mother is Aboriginal.
“I see the youth having difficulties knowing what they want to do and I really want to be a role model.”
It’s been a big week for the 18-year-old from Darwin, who was also just named as the newest Young Diva. She replaces Ricki-Lee Coulter in the Idol supergroup, which also features Kate DeAraugo, Paulini Curuenavuli, and Emily Williams.
Entertainer Jimmy Little was honoured with the lifetime achievement award for his music and charity work for improved indigenous health.
Kev Carmody’s Cannot Buy My Soul was named album of the year, while Queensland’s Black Image took home the band of the year award.
Troy Casser-Daley’s “Going Back Home” won the song of the year, recognising the most-performed indigenous song in 2007.
