LEF. Celebrates Heritage With “Ephesus”

Naarm/Melbourne-based singer-songwriter LEF. has teamed up with UK-based expat Chris Hyson (Jordan Rakei) for a dreamy new single “Ephesus.” It’s a beautiful soul-pop track about seizing happiness today rather than waiting for a payoff in the future.

“During my journey through Turkey, amidst the familiar quirks of family dynamics and the intricate layers of my relationship with my mum, I stumbled upon unexpected inspiration in the rhythmic hum of travel and the soothing aroma of Turkish tea, deeply intertwined with my cultural roots away from Australia,” LEF. explained. “It was within these ordinary yet profound moments that I crafted the initial beat and demo, laying the foundation for the genuine tone of my EP. I was extremely motivated creatively but also had a deep longing to reconnect with my family after a prolonged four years of separation, each lyric emerged as my most authentic and vulnerable expression, reflecting the complexities of our shared journey in a hopeful manner. The lyrics symbolise my visit to ancient Ephesus and the essence of my family ties.”

“Ephesus” is the second single lifted from LEF.’s debut EP, which he’ll release in the middle of the year.

Jordan Rakei Releases Live Spotify EP Ahead of Aussie Tour

Brisbane’s Jordan Rakei isn’t yet a household name, but his exciting neo-soul sound is gaining some serious attention here and abroad. If you’ve never seen him live, his recently released Spotify Live session, recorded at Shepherd’s Bush Empire in London, lets you experience the magic of his music.

The four-track streaming EP features Jordan’s pal, the equally talented Alfa Mist, for a sublime cover of Frank Ocean’s “Lost.” If you’re impressed by what you hear, make sure you see Jordan when he returns to our shores to support his recently released album Wallflower next year. Since he’s living in London at the moment, we don’t get so many opportunities to see him live. Tickets are on sale now for all these shows.

Jordan Rakei Knocks My Socks Off with “My Time”

I’m sitting here with goosebumps after listening to Jordan Rakei’s debut single “My Time” for the first time.

This track is seriously good. This boy plays the keys like nobody’s business, and his voice is smooth as silk. He’s got such a cool vibe. There’s an assurance to his sound that comes from being confident in doing your own thing. This song sounds like nothing I’ve heard, yet its off-kilter melody and new-style crooner charm are instantly accessible.

There’s more where this came from too. “My Time” is the first song lifted from Jordan’s debut EP Franklin’s Room. I’m definitely looking forward to listening to more. If you are too, you can see Jordan launching the single in Brisbane or supporting American singer-songwriter Raul Midon on his Aussie tour.
