Jordie Lane Tours Gospel Tinged New Single

Jordie Lane is back with a brand new single “Fool for Love,” the first to come from his eagerly awaited third album.

I’ve always been a Jordie fan, but I think this might be his best work yet. The Eagle Rock Gospel Choir gives the track a nostalgic, soulful feel that’s so accessible. While I love some of Jordie’s more mellow folk songs, I think this more raucous number has what it takes to catch a few more ears.

Jordie’s new album won’t hit stores until early next year, but he’ll give fans a sneak peek with some local shows in November and December. Here are all the places you can hear this incredible talent play.

Jordie Lane Comes Home for Album Preview Tour

Jordie Lane is returning home for a short run of dates this month and the next.

After such a hectic time it must be nice to be back home. Not that Jordie will have a lot of time for relaxation, with five shows in as many days scheduled! These gigs should be a real treat for fans, who’ll enjoy intimate venues and songs from Jordie’s first two albums, as well as new tracks from the third.

Jordie Lane Plays Live for “Annabelle Marie” Music Video

All too often film clips seem so fake. The vocals are lip-synched, and the footage so staged that it really undermines the heart of the music. So I was thrilled to see Jordie Lane take a very different tact with his new music video for “Annabelle Marie.”

The film clip sees Jordie perched atop a Byron Bay hill, playing the song live. It captures a moment in time, and a moment in music that’s completely real.

If you’re as moved by this video as I am you can catch Jordie at the following shows over the coming months.

9 October 2011 – Indi Bar, Scarborough (with Jeff Lang)

New Jordie Lane Music Video for “Not From Round Here”

This was all set to be a busy gig weekend for me. I caught Bachelor Girl last night at Lizotte’s, and tonight I was supposed to head back there to see Jordie Lane. Sadly though that gig has been cancelled at the last minute, so instead I’ve got a date with homemade lasagna and Masterchef. A Sunday shouldn’t be entirely devoid of Jordie though, so instead I figured I’d show you his new music video for “Not From Round Here.”

It was shot by up-and-coming filmmaker Darius Devas around New South Wales’ Byron Shire, and it really suits this gentle, rambling song perfectly. This is perfect Sunday music, don’t you think? It’s a shame I’m not experiencing it in the flesh tonight, but it’s probably the next best thing!

“Blood Thinner” – Jordie Lane

I’ve been enjoying a lot of back-to-basics music lately, but few artists strip things back as much as Jordie Lane on his sophomore effort, Blood Thinner.

Jordie recorded the disc in hotel rooms and basements on a four-track machine, with whatever instruments he could get his hands upon. His acoustic guitar and harmonica drive these tracks, but they’re complemented by all manner of unusual music makers, including wine glasses and Tupperware containers. It sounds quirky in principle, but the result is an album that feels far from gimmicky.

With this release Jordie presents himself as a troubadour in the vein of the dearly departed Tim Buckley. There’s a similar emotional core to this music, but I also hear overtones of Neil Young and Bob Dylan in there. He’s an old soul, whether he’s writing music that feels wiser than his years or separating his CD into sides A and B.

The songs are an easy marriage of folk and blues, gentle and unadorned. The simple recording process captures a moment in time, and you really hear that immediacy in the tunes. “Thin My Blood” takes me to an open desert highway, a scene where the world whizzes by from a car window. The title of “On the Net Till Morn” seems very modern, but the track itself takes its sound right back to the birth of blues. I also loved “Not From Round Here,” a gorgeous tale of isolation exquisitely told with just a little finger-picking on the guitar and some plaintive lyrics.

There’s a real beauty to Blood Thinner that I think might only be realised after a few listens. But from that first spin there’s a truth and a talent to what Jordie Lane does. If you’re impressed by this disc, or just keen to discover what it’s all about, you can see Jordie in the flesh on his upcoming tour. It kicks off in Ararat on Thursday and travels all the way around the country.
