This post is about a double obsession, as I’m in love with the song and the music video. “Make You Happy” is another perfect slice of laidback guitar pop. And is there anything cooler than the sight of Josh Pyke getting about in a guitar boat? Where do I get one of those?

New Song Obsession: "The Lighthouse Song" by Josh Pyke
Josh Pyke never fails to impress me. I first heard “The Lighthouse Song” during his set at Bimbadgen Blues, and it was love at first listen. This is Josh doing what he does best: crafting a deceptively simple melody and overlaying some beautiful poetic lyrics. The gorgeous animation adds just the right amount of whimsy.
Silverchair, Spoon, and More Join BDO Bill
Next year’s Big Day Out lineup was already bursting at the seams, but with the most recent announcement, it’s bigger than ever.
Silverchair had a massive year in 2007, taking home five ARIAs and receiving worldwide acclaim for their fifth album Young Modern. They’re set to start 2008 with a bang appearing at Big Day Out gigs around Australia and New Zealand.
They’ll join other local sensations including Augie March, Regurgitator, Josh Pyke, Gyroscope, and Operator Please.
There’s also more international acts, with American rockers Spoon, DJ Carl Cox, Brit darling Kate Nash, and electronic outfit Unkle joining the bill.
They’ll play alongside Rage Against the Machine, Bjork, Hilltop Hoods, Billy Bragg, and more at these massive events.
The Gold Coast, Sydney, and Melbourne shows have already sold out, and with these recent additions the Adelaide, Auckland, and Perth shows won’t be too far behind.

Ivy League’s Big Birthday Bashes
Last weekend I reported that Sydney indie label Ivy League is celebrating its tenth anniversary with a huge compilation CD. Some massive birthday concerts were rumoured, but I can now confirm the speculations are true.
The Metro will host two Ivy League birthday gigs in November. The ever reclusive rockers The Vines will make a rare performance to headline the show on November 2. Youth Group, The Silents, The Monarchs, and Hoolahan will also play that night.
The party will continue on November 3, when Josh Pyke, Red Riders, 78 Saab, The City Lights and Peabody take to the stage.
So get your tickets through The Metro and join in the celebrations!
