ARC Does the Beatles for Abbey Road Live

It’s hard to believe 50 years have passed since the release of Abbey Road. Arguably The Beatles’ best, it still sounds fresh as a daisy thanks to choice cuts like “Come Together,” “Something,” and “She Came In Through the Bathroom Window.” Aussie supergroup ARC will pay tribute to that iconic album at upcoming Abbey Road Live shows.

ARC is Kram (Spiderbait), Mark Wilson (Jet), Davey Lane (You Am I), and Darren Middleton (Powderfinger). If that wasn’t enough reason to get excited, the shows will also feature special guests Ash Naylor (Paul Kelly, Even and Rockwiz), Linda Bull (The Black Sorrows, Vika and Linda Bull), Brett Wolfenden (The Pictures, James Keays) and James Keys (Eagle and the Worm, Bob Evans).

Tickets are selling fast, so make sure you get yours to see some of our finest talents interpreting some of the Beatles’ best.

Dan Cribb Recruits Famous Friends For Pop-Punk Simpsons Tribute

The Worst Tribute Ever is the tribute album I didn’t know I needed: a pop-punk tribute to the music of The Simpsons. Conceived by Dan Cribb, the star-studded album sees WA’s punk prince working with a who’s who of Aussie artists including Guy Sebastian, Montaigne, Kram, and countless others.

“This project has evolved into more than I could have imagined,” Dan said. “Not only have I had the opportunity to work alongside some of my musical heroes, I’ve also made a stack of new friends and learnt a lot about songwriting, performance and collaboration. I can’t thank everyone involved enough, especially Troy Nababan, who played about half the record’s instrumentation and mixed and mastered each song to perfection.”

Honestly, The Worst Tribute Ever just needs to be heard to be believed. You can stream it here. It’s far from the worst tribute. In fact, the world is probably a better place simply because this exists.

Star Filled New Music Video from The Bedroom Philosopher

The Bedroom Philosopher, aka Justin Heazlewood, has just released the video for his new single “Northcote (So Hungover).” The film clip’s lots of fun, with some great cameos from Tim Rogers, Angie Hart, Kram, Hannah Fox, and Josh Earl. You’ll want to watch it a second time, as the first you’ll be too busy star-spotting! “Northcote (So Hungover) comes from The Bedroom Philosopher’s recently released third album Songs from the 86 Tram.

Kram Sells Vodka and Video Games

Kram may be poised for international stardom after his solo songs have been added to several global media ventures.

The most lucrative deal sees Kram’s song “Silk Suits” used for the next Smirnoff Vodka marketing campaign. The song will be used in a 12-month campaign which will be seen in several countries including the United States.

“Good Love” will be used in a television campaign for the racing game Dirt 2. Meanwhile “The Best Thing” has attracted the ears of Hollywood. The song will feature in two upcoming American films.

All tracks come from Kram’s first solo album, Mix Tape.

Kram Offers Words of Wisdom Ahead of uncharTED Grand Final

Kram burst onto the Aussie music scene as the drummer for indie darlings Spiderbait. Now he’s making waves with his solo career, and on Thursday July 9 he’ll headline the uncharTED Grand Final at Sydney’s Oxford Art Factory.

Kram says competitions like it “are always worth supporting as they give bands a chance for people to check them out and maybe win some dollars, which always helps.”

While these comps often help artists “make it big,” Kram says that should never be the end goal.

“Honestly, don’t try and make it big,” he advises. “You’ll smell of it a mile off. Just make the best music you can and try to do your own thing. Don’t care too much and hope for some luck.”

These nights always have winners and losers, but Kram says it doesn’t really matter which side you’re on.
“Winning is great but losing is not too bad either. I mean you’re playing music not shovelling shit and life is short so good luck to all!”

Kram Goes Solo

Spiderbait singer and drummer Kram is preparing to release a solo album called Mixtape.

It is an appropriate name from the album, which aims to be as eclectic as an old-fashioned mixtape.

“I wanted it to be like a radio station where all the songs sound like different bands even though it’s all played by one person… The premise of the whole album was to be constantly changing your approach musically,” Kram said in a statement.

Don’t think this spells the end for Spiderbait. The band has not released a studio album since 2004’s Tonight Alright, but they’re still popping up on the live scene. They played a New Years Eve show in Melbourne, and will next be seen at Brisbane’s Here and Now festival in January and the Coconet Classic Surf Festival over Easter.

The first single from the release, “Silk Suits,” is currently streaming at Kram’s MySpace page. You can also get a free download of the song “Outer Space” from the MySpace or Kram’s homepage. Look out for Mixtape in stored in March.
