Kylie Minogue Shops on the Cheap

We’re all tightening our belts in the face of the financial crisis, even our cashed-up pop stars! Kylie Minogue was spotted stocking up on preloved fashions at a Victorian Salvation Army outlet.

The bargain shopping pop diva scored two dresses, a hat, and a skirt for less than $40! Store manager Natasha Scott told The Daily Telegraph the songstress was shopping with a gal pal and doing her best to avoid the limelight.

“She was hiding under a hat and had the trademark big sunglasses on, but she still looked great,” she said.

“She looked happy as she browsed around before buying a couple of summery dresses, a trendy little hat with a peak and a skirt. All up, she spent under $40.”

The pop princess has been holidaying around Australia with her current beau, Spanish model Andres Velencoso, and spending time with her parents since coming home to play last month’s Sound Relief concert.

Barry Gibb and Kylie Minogue Tipped for Sound Relief

There are whispers that Barry Gibb and Kylie Minogue may be added to the already massive Sound Relief concert bill.

Word is that Ian “Molly” Meldrum has coaxed the former Bee Gee out of retirement. If anyone could have done it, it would have been Molly!

Molly’s also saying that Kylie will play at the benefit show, but no formal announcement has been made yet.

The March 14 Sound Relief concerts will raise much needed funds for victims of the Victorian bushfires and Queensland floods. Tickets went on sale yesterday, but limited tickets are still available.

Kylie Designs Filofax for Breast Cancer Charity Auction

Kylie Minogue has put her support behind a celebrity auction raising money for breast cancer research.

Kylie joins Lily Allen, ER actress Alex Kingston, television presenter Holly Willoughby and a host of other British celebs donating customized pink Filofaxes. Each Filofax has been individually designed by the stars, and many even come with a personalised photo and message from the celebrity.

Bidding for the Filofaxes will start at £50 on buyoncegivetwice.co.uk. The auctions will close on April 13.

Kylie was successfully treated for breast cancer in 2006, but it’s clearly a cause that is still close to her heart.

Australians Up for Grammy Award

Aussies are in line to take home three gongs at next year’s Grammy Awards.

Kylie Minogue’s chart-topping dance album X is up against new releases from Cyndi Lauper, Daft Punk, and Moby in the best electronic/dance album category.

Industry newcomer Sam Sparro is also showing the world that Aussies can do more than rock. His debut smash “Black and Gold” has a shot of being named best dance song. But it’ll be tough for the local lad, with stiff competition from Madonna, Rihanna, and Lady GaGa.

With so many years under their belt, it’s amazing to think AC/DC have never won a Grammy. They’re in with a shot this year, with “Rock N Roll Train” nominated as best rock performance by a duo or group. They’ll fight Coldplay, Radiohead, The Eagles, and Kings of Leon for the title.

Good luck to all our Aussie Grammy hopefuls! The 51st Annual Grammy Awards will be held in Los Angeles on 8 February 2009.

Kylie and Coldplay Release AIDS Charity Song "Lhuna"

Kylie Minogue and Coldplay have teamed up for an ethereal new single called “Lhuna.” The track was released yesterday to support World AIDS Day.

All proceeds from the sale of the landmark single will go to (RED)Wire, a charity which helps deliver AIDS medication to those that can’t afford it.

This song is certainly a departure from the soaring stadium anthems and boppy pop gems we’re used to hearing from these musicians. Who would have imagined their collaboration would sound like this?

Kylie Releases X2008 Tour CD

Warner Music are cashing in on Kylie Minogue’s upcoming tour with a special edition of her latest party album, X.

All the ticketholders probably have the CD already, but Warner are banking on fans lapping up the remixes on the bonus disc. The album’s big singles “2 Hearts,” “The One,” “Wow,” “In My Arms,” and “All I See” have all been given pumping dancefloor makeovers.

Speaking of that tour, it’s not too late for Aussie fans to catch Kylie’s X2008 show. Tickets are limited, but they’re still available for the December 16 and 17 shows in Sydney and the December 20 and 22 shows in Melbourne.

Kylie Announces Aussie Tour Dates

Kylie Minogue has announced she’s finally coming home. Our pop darling will visit Sydney on December 14 and Melbourne on December 19.

“It’s been such as joy to take this show to so many countries that I’ve never been to before, but it’s a real thrill to finally be bringing it home to Australia and to be able to share it with you all,” Kylie said in a statement.

No doubt the news is sure to upset fans living anywhere else in Australia, but some shows are better than none at all.

Tickets will go on general sale from September 8, but you can jump the queue by signing up for a free Frontier Touring membership. Frontier will start their online presale on September 4.

Will Kylie Bring X Show Home?

If you hung on to your Kylie Minogue tickets after she was diagnosed with breast cancer, you might get to cash them in sooner rather than later. Frontier Touring’s Michael Gudinski says the Princess of Pop may bring her X2008 show to Oz in December.

“If everything can work out there’s every possibility we will do some dates later this year,” he told AAP.

“How many dates we can do, and how many cities we do, and that stuff, will have to be worked out – it’s an absolutely gigantic production, it really is like taking theatre on the road. But from Frontier’s point of view, I’m going to make every effort possible to make sure it happens.”

Michael said he tried to lure Kylie Down Under when he saw her for her 40th birthday in May. However the Grammy-winning star and her management were not willing to consider it at the time.

“Today was the first time that we’ve ever had any real discussion about whether it could happen, and we had a good talk today,” he explained.

“She would really like it to come to Australia … and I just think it would be absolutely unfair to her Australian fans not to see what is the most amazing production I’ve seen. Australia is her home country and she should be so proud of what she’s doing.”

I’ve heard rave reviews coming out of Europe about these shows, so I’ll keep my fingers crossed that the local fans can catch them!

Our Kylie Gets OBE

Kylie Minogue has always been considered pop royalty, but now it’s official. Last night she received an Order of the British Empire at a ceremony at Buckingham Palace.

She wore a long white satin dress and gold high heels as she received the honour from Prince Charles. Her parents Carol and Ron and sister Dannii were there to see her presented with the OBE.

Kylie told The Herald Sun she was “totally blown away” by the ceremony.

“I just said to my sister before, ‘We’re in Buckingham Palace!’. Imagine saying that to us as kids. I was trying to breathe and take it all in and see everything.”

“It was very emotional seeing all these people from different walks of life joining together for this event. It is an incredible honour for me to receive this award,” she said.

“It makes me feel both humble and proud to be recognised for doing a job that I love so much.”

Congrats to Ms Minogue! She’s done Australia proud!
