Lenka Back to Her Best With “Silhouette”

Remember Lenka? Even if you don’t remember the name, I know you’ll remember her smash 2008 single “The Show.” It’s been a long time since she made an impact on the charts, but if there’s any justice she should do it again with her latest single “Silhouette.” This nostalgic 80s throwback is so much fun, just like the best pop songs should be!

“This song is my delicious 1980s pop jam about being worn down by life to the point where you feel like you’re disappearing and becoming numb. Almost a nihilistic feeling, but in a joyful way!” Lenka enthused. “It’s fun to get creative with your more negative emotions and wear them like a costume, turn them into armour.”

The video continues the 80s vibes, with Lenka taking inspiration from pop icons like Annie Lennox, Whitney Houston, and Madonna.
“This was such a fun video to shoot. The goal was to evoke the feel of 80s glamour, the nostalgia, but without the cheese,” explained Lenka’s director, Adam Jordan. “Lenka absolutely smashed it with the clothing options, my favourite shots became the black sparkly top with the backlight, the perfect mix of the glamour and nostalgia vibe we were going for.”

And if that wasn’t enough, Lenka is playing shows just about everywhere. She’s just played a string of shows in China. The US comes next before Lenka arrives home for some local gigs in November. Get on it!

Lenka Releases Stunning New Single “Heal”

Lenka has offered us a taste of her new album Attune ahead of its October 13 release. The lead single “Heal” is a gentle pop ballad with introspective lyrics, the result of a collaborative songwriting session over tea with Sally Seltmann.

If you love “Heal,” you’re in luck. Preorder Attune now and you’ll receive a digital copy of “Heal” and another song “Lucky” to enjoy while you’re waiting for the album. Speaking of the album, it sounds very cool with a papercraft diorama sculpture piece part of its unique packaging. As someone who’s long bemoaned the death of interesting liner notes, I’m impressed.

Lenka will celebrate Attune’s release with a show at Los Angeles’ Hotel Café on October 17 and another at New York’s Mercury Lounge on October 19. Hopefully it’s not too long before we see her back on home soil.

Lenka Does Lullabies

You might remember Lenka from the early noughties outfit Decoder Ring, or that irresistibly catchy pop song from 2008, “The Show”. Either way, you’re likely to be surprised by the sweet tunes she’s showcasing on her third solo album Shadows.

This album is sure to answer the prayers of parents across the nation. It’s a collection of lullabies that don’t suck! Penned while Lenka was pregnant with her first child, the disc includes the hand-clapping new single “Heart to the Party.” The film clip with footage of a childhood birthday party sets the scene. Lenka’s bound to find a brand new audience with Shadows, which hits stores on June 7.

New Song Obsession: "All My Bells are Ringing" by Lenka

British band The Music will join Scotland’s The Fratellis and a host of local musos for the very cheekily named Big O festival next year.

Christmas is my favourite time of year. What’s not to love about a holiday that brings together family, fine food, gifts, and too much alcohol? Lenka’s new song “All My Bells are Ringing” should help you get into the Christmas spirit. It’s another perfect slice of pop from this Aussie expat with an adorable stop-motion animated clip to match! Enjoy!

Lenka – Lenka

I recently told you how I am in love with Lenka’s new single, “The Show.” But I couldn’t stop there. I needed to know whether this girl was the next big thing, or a one-song sensation. After giving her self-titled solo album a thorough listen, I’m predicting big things from this Aussie ex-pat.

If you love “The Show,” chances are you’re going to love this recording. This hot single gives a great indication of what you’re in for with this recording. Lenka’s sugary sweet vocals are the perfect match for her light, breezy melodies. This is an album of joy, a whimsical collection of songs which is instantly accessible.

That’s not to suggest that Lenka is all sunshine and rainbows. Songs like “Anything I’m Not” and “Trouble Is a Friend” aren’t afraid to explore the darker side of life. But Lenka’s ethereal vocals and indie pop sensibilities ensure the record never gets bogged down by negativity.

The result is the perfect antidote for whatever ails you. It’s an album full of colour and sweetness, which gets richer and more satisfying with every listen.

New Song Obsession: "The Show" by Lenka

Like many of you, I was first introduced to Lenka’s brilliant song “The Show” through Channel Seven’s latest lot of ads. This irresistably happy tune makes the network’s self promotion immensely more bearable, but I much prefer listening to it in its entirety. It builds slowly before exploding in a cascade of sunshine. Aussie girls are releasing some fantastic songs at the moment, and this is one of the best.

The official music video has embedding disabled on YouTube so instead I bring you this awesome live performance on an American radio station. It’s so nice to see Aussies doing well abroad, isn’t it?
