Little Scout Prepare to Release Second Album

Little Scout were one of my favourite acts of 2011. So I’m thrilled to hear they’re back this year with their second album Are You Life, which will hit stores on September 6.

Are You Life was self-produced and recorded at several spots around their hometown of Brisbane. It reflects the band’s evolution, with the stronger, more distorted sounds Little Scout have been playing with in their live shows. Happily though Are You Life still features those gorgeous vocal melodies I first fell for. It also features the lead single “Go Quietly”, which has scored plenty of airplay on commercial radio and JJJ.

You can enjoy a sneak peek of the Are You Life when Little Scout support fellow Brisbanites Hungry Kids of Hungary at the following shows.

24 August 2013 – Small Ballroom, Newcastle

5 September 2013 – The Barwon Club, Geelong
6 September 2013 – Corner Hotel, Melbourne
7 September 2013 – Karova Lounge, Ballarat

Little Scout Take Left Turn with “Go Quietly”

I’ve been wooed by the music of Little Scout ever since I heard “We Are Walking Out” a couple of months ago. I was starting to feel I had the Brisbane band figured out, but they’ve thrown me for a loop with their new single “Go Quietly.”

The track is a much fuzzier and bolder song than the band’s other singles. I haven’t warmed to it as easily, but I can really appreciate its drama. The song saw the band working in Los Angeles with Lars Stalfors (The Mars Volta), so perhaps it’s little wonder that it signals a new direction for the band. You can’t be plucked out of your comfort zone and produce the same old thing, can you?

“We fell in love with this song pretty quickly. It’s short, fuzzy and loud,” Little Scout said in a statement. “This is uncharted territory for us and we like the way it makes us feel; we hope you like it too.”

“Go Quietly” comes from Little Scout’s sophomore album, which will hit stores later this year. What do you think of the tune?

Little Scout’s Beautiful Ballet Clip

After stealing my heart last month with “We Are Walking Out,” Brisbane’s Little Scout have released a film clip to accompany the single, and announced a string of East Coast shows.

This beautiful ballet-themed clip is the perfect accompaniment to this lush, uplifting single. And what a relief to see a dance-focused piece of art that’s nothing like Black Swan!

Little Scout’s upcoming gigs will support the release of their debut album Take Your Light, which hits stores on August 5. If this song worms its way into your heart as it’s done mine you won’t want to miss these concerts. Tickets are available from the venues and usual outlets.

26 August 2011 – Alhambra Lounge, Brisbane
27 August 2011 – The Spotted Cow Hotel, Toowoomba
2 September 2011 – Workers Club, Fitzroy
10 September 2011 – Notes Live, Sydney

Little Scout One to Watch

Brisbane’s Little Scout are the latest band to capture my ear, thanks to the sublimely sweet vocals of Melissa Tickle and lush soundscapes. The single “We Are Walking Out” has made me prick up my ears, and the good news is there’s more to come.

The band is set to release their debut album soon off the back of some major support slots. Already this year Little Scout have toured with Holly Throsby and warmed up their hometown for Belle & Sebastian. And no doubt once the album pops there’ll be more shows to come.

Head to Little Scout’s Facebook page to hear the new single, and keep an eye out for this exciting band!
