Lucy Gallant’s New Single More Than Just Another “Love” Song

With Valentine’s Day fast approaching, Lucy Gallant has just released her new single “Love” to get us all in the mood. It’s a charming indie-pop ditty that showcases Lucy’s exceptional voice. It’s so distinctive and can seemingly do anything. What an absolute charmer.

“It sounds so cliche but it was Valentine’s Day 2016 and I was looking into the eyes of the man I thought I would spend the rest of my life with. I knew in my heart that he loved me but he was too wounded and afraid to let down his guard and say those sweet, yet terrifying four letters that create the word that makes the world go round,” Lucy recalled of the song’s inspiration. “I could feel his intense yearning to be vulnerable but his conditioning would not allow it. This was the fork in the road. We couldn’t move forward together without a mutual declaration of love, and so, it ended.”

“Whilst wrestling with the hurt from this heartbreak I took to the streets of Byron Bay to busk and as I was singing my heart out playing on the street, the song ‘Love’ just flowed out of me. I wrote it on the spot and as I sang the lyrics, I could feel it healing the pain in my heart. The song is about overcoming the fear of feeling exposed after sharing my deepest feelings with the one I loved. It’s about needing that person to clearly affirm that the feeling of love is mutual. At that moment, a man stopped and as he listened to me play the song he started crying and then dropped $100 dollars in my guitar case whilst saying ‘Thank you so much. I needed to hear that song’. Since then I have had such an amazing response every time I play this song live.”

We’ll be hearing plenty more from Lucy in the coming months. She’ll tour around Queensland and New South Wales next month and release more singles leading up to the launch her new six-track EP in April. Make sure you see her when she plays near you.

Fall Head Over Heels for Buttered’s New Single, “Love”

As days of the week go, Mondays aren’t very sexy. Usually. But like me, you might just change your mind once you wrap your ears around “Love,” the super-smooth new single from Gold Coast duo Buttered. This one takes me right back to the ‘90s, when slow jams from acts like Boyz II Men, Jodeci, and Dru Hill were in regular rotation on my stereo.

“Love blends groove and emotion leaving the listener feeling elevated. “Love” is about the beginning of true commitment. The excitement and possibilities that come with creating a life with someone. It’s also about how that feeling translates universally. The shape and size of our love in every part of our lives colour and intensifies everything we are,” Buttered explained. “The classic Wurlitzer drives through the entire song accompanying the strong vocal hooks and delicate guitar parts. Picture yourself dancing softly with your partner reminiscing on many years of joy. That’s how the listener will feel at the end of this track. good luck getting it out of your head!”

You’ll get the chance to dance along to their music in person soon, with Buttered heading out on a single tour next month. Catch them at the following venues this July:

2 July 2021 – Solbar, Maroochydore
15 July 2021 – The Bearded Lady, Brisbane
16 July 2021 – Miami Marketta, Gold Coast
30 July 2021 – The Northern, Byron Bay

DL and Nathaniel Spread Good Vibes With “LOVE”

Melbourne rapper DL has teamed up with Nathaniel for his latest feel-good single “LOVE.” This song is pure sunshine, with pure confessional lyrics and a hooky chorus.

“’LOVE’ is a song I wrote about a woman and the feels I got even before meeting her,” DL admitted. “There was just that something about her; and yeah, we ended up walking down the aisle together, and we’ve created two beautiful daughters since. They’ve straight up given ‘LOVE’ more than one definition. This song is celebrating all of it. I’m legitimately thrilled and so proud to share it.”

If you need something to lift you up from your midweek slump, this is it.

Get Ready to Fall For “Love” by The Avenue

The Avenue have me punching my fist in the air with the release of their awesome new synth-rock anthem “Love.”

This song is seriously catchy, with killer vocals from Sam Thomas and lyrics about desire that are so relatable.

“’Love’ is by far our heaviest and most punk/grunge song,” Sam explained. “It’s about the feeling of your body screaming out for a person but your mind detesting the thought of them.”

“Love” is the first track lifted from The Avenue’s sophomore EP, Names. They’re currently on the road celebrating its release. You can catch The Avenue at Ric’s Bar in Brisbane on March 3 before the big EP launch at the Evelyn Hotel in Melbourne on March 10.

Happy Valentine’s Day

It’s Valentine’s Day folks, that time of year where the world gets a little bit sappier. I must admit, I’m not immune to this Hallmark holiday. We reject the way restaurants jack up their prices, so I’m preparing to spend the afternoon whipping up a three-course meal. Yep, entrée, main, and even dessert. I have no sweet tooth, yet I’m getting set to create something sugary just for him. If that doesn’t say “I love you,” I don’t know what does.

Given that love is in the air I figured I’d post an Aussie song with a bit of personal meaning for me, “You’re My Better Half” by Keith Urban. We actually cut the cake at our wedding to this song nearly five years ago. We’ve all heard that phrase “better half,” but unless you’ve really been in a good relationship you can’t fully understand what it means. I don’t buy into that idea of a person completing you, but I do think the right one can bring out your very best qualities. People who know me say I’ve blossomed since meeting my husband; I’m more confident and outgoing and generally happier. I like to think I’ve been just as much of an asset to him!

So to my husband Steve, you are my better half. You know how much I love you, but on days like this I get a license to make the public declarations. Here’s to many more Valentine’s Day together!
