Luca Brasi Announce Tour, Play Goo Goo Dolls For “Like a Version”

Tassie punk-rock act Luca Brasi announced their upcoming tour in style recently, appearing in the triple j studios for Like a Version. As a Goo Goo Dolls fan, I get a little protective over the band’s material, but Luca Brasi’s take on “Iris” is utter perfection.

Luca Brasi were joined in the studio by Naarm/Melbourne indie-folk act Eaglemont, who’ll not so coincidentally play support on all these upcoming shows. OK Hotel are also on the stacked bill. Luca Brasi should be in fine form, as they’ve just wrapped up shows with Canada’s Alexisonfire. Tickets are on sale now.

Luca Brasi Shine a Line on Mental Health With SPEAK UP! Stay ChatTY Collab

Luca Brasi has teamed up with SPEAK UP! Stay ChatTY to encourage people to get talking about mental health and suicide prevention. To celebrate the collaboration, the Tassie punk act has released a new lyric video for their poignant track “The Truth.” Frontman Tyler Richardson has also shared his personal battle with mental health issues in a new video for the charity’s Stories Worth Sharing series.

“I’ve spent a lot of my adult years in and out of cycles of loss and of grief,” he explained. “I’m even writing these words on the anniversary of a dear friend’s loss; unfortunately I often feel numb on days like these—I’ve had a lot of them. What I don’t want is any more of them, any more days where I have to go and face the family and friends of another lost friend. Any more days of families losing loved ones, of partners losing partners, of parents losing children. We’ve been lucky enough to make connections through this band that I could never have foreseen, this is what I’ll take away from Luca Brasi overall; that I got to somehow touch the lives of others through music in a positive way.”

“‘The Truth’ is about how hopeless I feel during all this loss,” he added. “It’s a hope that this song helps those listening feel less like an island, and that others feel what you have felt/are feeling. You are not alone, I can promise you that.”

You can support the vital work SPEAK UP! Stay ChatTY does by buying a new limited edition Luca Brasi T-shirt from the band’s online merch store. All the profits from sales of the charity shirt will benefit the charity directly, so get on it!

Luca Brasi Releases New Single Ahead of Album

Tasmanian punk act Luca Brasi has never put a foot wrong with me and the trend continues with the brand new single “Anything Near Conviction.” It has everything I loved about the previous singles: insightful lyrics delivered with plenty of passion and a proper punk ethos.

Luca Brasi frontman Tyler Richardson says it’s “The song that centres around giving yourself a kick in the arse to do better in life and for those you love. A not-so-gentle reminder that you gotta give everything you can.”

“Anything Near Conviction” comes from Luca Brasi’s third album If This Is All We’re Going to Be, which will be available on CD, LP, and for digital download April 29. If everything we’re heard from the band of late is anything to go by, it’s going to be a corker.

Luca Brasi Back with “The Cascade Blues”

Tasmanian punk act Luca Brasi have been killing it lately, selling out shows all across the country and receiving plenty of radio love for their single “Aeroplane.” Now they’re back with a band new tune “The Cascade Blues.”

“The Cascade Blues is meant to be a reminder that life is there to be lived,” say the band. “It’s easy to fall in to a negative mindset when things aren’t going right; sometimes I need to tell myself to snap out of it. Life’s pretty bloody short and reminding myself of how lucky we are to live it so easily, and to be young while we’re young, is the message in this song.”

I love the raw emotion of this track. While I was spinning it for the second time, my husband remarked that it sounded a lot like Third Eye Blind. There’s certainly a similar combination of insightful lyrics and passion-filled vocals.

“The Cascade Blues” comes from Luca Brasi’s new album, due later in the year.

Luca Brasi Match My Mood with “Benthos”

You know those days where everything seems to annoy you? I’m having one of them. From the NRL only releasing men’s and kid’s Nines jerseys (because clearly women don’t watch) to Optus sending my new phone to my old address (despite confirming the right one when we spoke on Tuesday), my blood’s boiling. I don’t think having my hair ripped out of my face at the salon in 40 minutes is going to change my demeanour either.

Sometimes you just have to go with it, which is why “Benthos,” the new single from Tasmanian punk rockers Luca Brasi is hitting all the right notes for me today. It’s bold and angry and it makes me want to punch my fist in the air defiantly.

If you’re feeling it too, you might want to catch Luca Brasi when they tour all around the country next March.
