Paulina Drops Beautiful New Single, “Nobody”

At just 17 years of age, Brisbane singer-songwriter Paulina is releasing music so good that it’d make many artists more than twice her age jealous. Her latest single “Nobody” is an exercise in restraint, a gorgeous ballad that showcases Paulina’s gift for songwriting and her sultry voice. When so many young artists go overboard with runs, it’s so refreshing to hear a song like this, presented so simply and beautifully.

“’Nobody’ is an exploration of happiness which can be found within oneself. It also delves into the envy and frustration other people have of those individuals who find true happiness for themselves,” Paulina explained. “The lyrics centre around someone who has found that joy within their life but must continue to watch others suffer in their own anguish and fake their so-called ‘happiness’. As much as you can sometimes dislike a person, I personally find there’s always a part of me that still wants the best for them and doesn’t want them to fall deeper and deeper into their own self-inflicted misery.”

Paulina is currently a finalist in the 2022 Queensland Music Awards for her song “Parasite,” which I previously raved about. This release proves the talent she showed there was no fluke. We can expect big things from this Queensland artist.

“Nobody” – The Ruiins

I’ve been sitting on this review for a while, because it’s much more fun to listen to The Ruiins’ new EP Nobody than write about it. I’d have the best of intentions of putting my ideas down, but before long I was singing along to a chorus or grooving my body to the beat. When you’re lost in the music like that, you don’t want to analyse it. You just want to be.

Starting an EP with an instrumental intro is a bold choice, but it gives a great taste of what’s to come. Big driving drum beats, a tune that’s catchy as all get out. It tantalises us like a good entrée, making us salivate in anticipation for the main course.

The next song “Drowning” feels like a single already. It has such strong vocals delivering lyrics with heart, those big drums moving everything forward and encouraging us to tap our feet in time.

“Love Can Start a War” isn’t such a heavy hitter on the surface, with a gentler feel than the tracks that came before, but it packs a real emotional punch with powerful, gritty vocals. These vocals ensure tracks like this and “The Season,” the songs where the band eases their foot from the pedal just a little, never become background music.

It’s so hard to pick a favourite on such a quality collection of songs, but “Water & Waves” might just have the edge here. It’s got such a great summery feel with a hard-hitting sucker-punch of a chorus. It puts a big smile on my face every time.

Bands rarely save their lead singles to the end of an EP, but The Ruiins’ unconventional approach pays off here. I’ve already waxed lyrical about the quality of this song. The title track makes sure “Nobody” ends on a high, ensuring as a listener you feel so good about the EP that you want to press play again. And again. And again. Just six tracks has got me well and truly hooked on The Ruiins.

Nobody is available from all your favourite digital music providers now. The Ruiins will play some local shows to celebrate its release in June.

8 June 2018 – The Cambridge, Newcastle
9 June 2018 – The Union Hotel, Sydney
15 June 2018 – Great Northern Hotel, Byron Bay
16 June 2018 – The Pink Motel, Gold Coast

The Ruiins Make Strong Statement With “Nobody”

Mid-North Coast duo The Ruiins have knocked it out of the park with their epic new single “Nobody.” It’s got a bigger, moodier sound than previous releases, and I think it’s better for it.

“It takes a more dynamic approach which we haven’t yet explored. It highlights raw emotion and the difficulties of relationships, getting caught up in thought and realising when to act upon your emotions,” noted the band’s drummer and vocalist, Adam Dooker.

“Nobody” is the title track from The Ruiins’ debut EP, which is out now. Fresh from shows in Bali, The Ruiins will launch the EP with the following shows on Australia’s East Coast.

8 June 2018 – The Cambridge Hotel, Newcastle
9 June 2018 – The Union Hotel, Sydney
15 June 2018 – Great Northern Hotel, Byron Bay
16 June 2018 – The Pink Motel, Gold Coast

Patrick Wilson’s “Nobody” is Something Special

If you love your alt-country with a soulful flavour, you’re going to adore Patrick Wilson’s new single “Nobody.” This ridiculously catchy song is the first single lifted from Patrick’s forthcoming EP, Anywhere With a Rooftop.

It strikes the right balance between being brand new and so timeless and familiar. You could slip this song on when you’re getting together with your parents and there’d be no complaints, yet it doesn’t feel at all dated.

“It’s a familiar sound driven by horns and heavenly harmonies, my new single ‘Nobody’ celebrates the jubilation love can bring someone.” Patrick explained in the press release.

Patrick will launch “Nobody” for hometown fans at The Post Office Hotel in Coburg on August 27. Doors open at 4 pm, so don’t be late!
